Job Description

Position Overview:
The Kleberg-Kenedy Juvenile Probation Department is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Juvenile Probation Officer to join our team. This role plays a vital part in supervising, supporting, and guiding youth offenders many of whom face behavioral and mental health challenges through a structured rehabilitation process. The work environment can be demanding and may involve dealing with individuals who exhibit aggressive behavior. Despite these challenges, this position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people and help shape a safer, more supportive community.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise juveniles on probation and ensure compliance with court-ordered conditions. Conduct regular interviews and check-ins to monitor progress and behavior. Prepare detailed reports including social histories, case plans, violation notices, and assessments. Develop individualized case management plans as required by the Texas Family Code. Submit accurate and timely documentation to Juvenile Court and maintain ongoing case files. Conduct office, home, and school visits to assess living and educational environments. Administer drug screenings and ensure accountability measures are in place. Collaborate with law enforcement, schools, social services, and community agencies. Provide transportation for juveniles to and from court, appointments, or placements. Represent the department at community events and promote available services. Participate in on-call rotation as needed. Maintain positive professional relationships with all stakeholders. Uphold departmental rules and report violations to the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Criminology, Corrections, Counseling, Law, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education , or another field approved by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) .
Preferred:
One (1) year of full-time experience in casework, corrections, counseling, or social service-related work that meets TJJD requirements.

Communicate effectively (verbally, writing and understanding) Analyze facts and conduct impartial investigations Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries Work independently and collaboratively under pressure Manage time and prioritize multiple tasks Maintain professionalism in high-stress situations Handle physical restraint techniques as needed Build strong relationships with clients, families, agencies, and the community Submit written documentation clearly, accurately, and impartially
Pre-Employment Requirements:
Must be 21 years of age or older Possess a valid Texas driver's license and reliable transportation with current insurance Pass a comprehensive background investigation, including employment, education, criminal history, and driving record checks Must submit to pre-employment drug testing and remain compliant with random, unannounced drug/alcohol screenings throughout employment Certification Requirements (Post-Hire): Must obtain Juvenile Probation Officer Certification within six (6) months of hire Certification includes completion of at least 41.5 hours of TJJD-mandated training and successful passing of the state certification exam Why Join Us?
