Job Description

Does promoting lasting recovery from illegal drugs or alcohol appeal to you? Are you skilled at balancing compassion with accountability? Would you like to be a member of a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to changing lives and achieving the best outcome for those struggling with chemical dependency? If so, working as a Recovery Court Probation Officer may be the job for you! The Department of Community Corrections is currently seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Recovery Court Probation Officer to supervise participants placed in the Recovery Court program by the Loudoun County Circuit Court. Duties include submitting reports to the Court, testifying in Court, drug testing, attending and participating in Recovery Court Team meetings, and collaborating with the Recovery Court Coordinator. This position establishes and monitors community service work for program participants and ensures that all special conditions of the Court are fulfilled. This position requires regular attendance of Recovery Court proceedings, accurate automated case notes and case files, performs substance abuse assessments, and makes appropriate referrals for services. As a member of the Recovery Court Team, this position supports behavioral change through incentives and sanctions, which promote accountability and recovery. Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or related field, and a minimum of two years related experience in the criminal justice field. Experience working with a Recovery/Drug Court or other type of specialty docket/court preferred. The successful candidate must undergo and complete a criminal and DMV background check. An annual DMV record check will be required. Must be willing to supervise criminal defendants in a Community Corrections office setting and perform occasional residential visits. Must be willing to work with criminal offenders who may have violent tendencies and to enter the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center or other correctional facilities, as needed. Experience working with criminally involved, substance-abusing defendants/offenders and/or strong background (knowledge/education) in substance abuse, addiction, mental health and appropriate services/treatments. Collection of samples for urinalysis and administration of alcohol breath tests is also required. Must have strong writing skills and be able to compile facts and prepare information reports for submission to the Court. The successful candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills to interact with representatives from the legal community such as the Commonwealth's Attorneys, Defense Attorneys, Law Enforcement, Judges, and Court Personnel. The ideal candidate will be able to work as part of the Recovery Court Team, as well as on the probation team within the Department of Community Corrections. VCIN certification is required, selected candidate will obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
