Job Description

Professional Summary of Duties Monitors and supervises adult offenders placed on local community-based probation within the localities served. Ensures compliance with court-ordered conditions, conducts screenings and assessments, coordinates treatment and community resources, prepares court documentation, and collaborates with courts, law enforcement, and service providers to support offender accountability and rehabilitation. Key Responsibilities Supervise adult offenders assigned to local community-based probation. Monitor compliance with all court orders, including community service requirements. Perform random drug and alcohol testing when there is reason to suspect illegal substance use or alcohol/prescription medication abuse. Refer offenders to substance abuse education, treatment, and other support services based on identified needs. File motions to show cause for offenders requiring further court review. Maintain required records and prepare reports in accordance with Department of Criminal Justice Services standards. Essential Functions Provide direct supervision for offenders placed on local probation. Use Motivational Interviewing and effective communication techniques to encourage behavioral change. Maintain accurate case files and enter all required information into the PSLP database. Assess offender needs and coordinate referrals to community agencies and service providers. Attend court, receive new placements, and conduct intake procedures. Testify in court regarding offender adjustment, participation, and compliance with court-ordered obligations; make recommendations when appropriate. Complete risk and needs assessments, develop treatment plans, and establish offender goals. Prepare written reports, complete and file Show Cause forms, and issue capias documentation when directed. Adapt supervision practices to align with evidence-based practices. Collect urine samples for drug screening and report results. Run criminal history checks through the VCIN terminal. Maintain effective working relationships with courts, law enforcement, service providers, families, community groups, and relevant state agencies. Preferred Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or related work experience including functional or operational administrative experience in a criminal justice, jail or corrections setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful applicants must undergo a background investigation. The starting salary for this position is $44,296.54.
