Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Lead the RAC-Safety team to ensure that all safety regulatory, certification and compliance matters affecting current and future vehicle content/design/development/performance are fully supported, and that items of importance to Mitsubishi Motors are reported on in a timely manner. This position will interact with entities including but not limited to NHTSA, IIHS, NTSB, the Alliance for Automotive Innovation (AAI), other vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, Mitsubishi North American, and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. This position offers flexibility to work from home while maintaining strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. The RAC Manager will be expected to participate in periodic in-person meetings with RAC team members and with select external organizations. While most day-to-day interactions will be conducted virtually, this position requires a proactive communicator who can effectively engage in a hybrid environment, balance independent remote work and occasional on-site presence with internal and external stakeholders to support team alignment and relationship-building.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Lead our RAC-Safety team
  • Manage all RAC-Safety group operations and resources.
  • Execute the groups' direction, priorities, goals & strategies.
  • Monitor, review, provide feedback and sign off on work product prepared by RAC-Safety engineers on vehicle safety related matters. Allocate workload among group members.
  • Report to the Director on work performed by the group, and work with the Director on vehicle safety policy matters.
  • Consult with Director on RAC-Safety personnel matters.
2. Work with other departments in MRDA to achieve the broader organization's objectives and Business Plan implementation. 3. Act as Mitsubishi Motors primary point of contact for vehicle safety standards rulemakings, consumer safety programs (NCAP, IIHS, CR, …), related Federal and State legislative activity affecting light duty vehicle content, design, development or performance. 4. Analyze and provide strategic recommendations in a timely manner to MMC and MMNA on US regulatory activities; guide

in its comments for rulemaking or other government-initiated action; consolidate

input and submit final documents to NHTSA, IIHS, or other related entities. 5. Represent MMC at the US auto manufacturer trade association (i.e. Alliance for Automotive Innovation - AAI), and at various vehicle safety-related organizations. Inform MMC in a timely manner on these activities and advise MMC on recommended course of action. 6. Support Mitsubishi Motors Canada (MMSCan) on vehicle safety related matters upon request. 7. Ensure information requests from NHTSA, IIHS, or other related entities are handled in a smooth and timely manner. 8. Lead the development of (and updates to) vehicle safety regulatory forecasts. 9. Act on requests from MMC and MMNA for: interpretations of regulations; media-related events (safety-related television broadcasts, press events, etc.); technical Information (test results); background information on future/ongoing rulemaking; and other related requests. 10. Prepare and keep current reports on major light duty vehicle safety regulatory activities.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Represents the company on vendor/supplier business issues. 2. Participate in teleconferences/video conferences, meetings, workshops, etc. as appropriate. 3. Perform any other duties that may be assigned or required.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Four-year engineering degree (automotive related) or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of specialized automotive safety regulatory, compliance & certification with an automotive related organization.
  • 5+ years of project leadership or coordination experience.
  • 2+ years of management experience preferred
  • Computer literacy, particularly word-processing and spreadsheet ability, Microsoft Office products, and Internet research.
  • Proven research abilities.
