Night Shift HSE Advisor (Safety Representative) Position Summary
NANUQ-AFC
is seeking an experienced Night Shift Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Advisor to support heavy civil construction operations at the ConocoPhillips Kuparuk Gravel Works Project on Alaska's North Slope. Reporting to the Project Manager and HSE Manager, the Night Shift HSE Advisor is responsible for promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with NANUQ-AFC, ConocoPhillips, and regulatory requirements, and providing visible HSE leadership during all night shift construction activities. The Night Shift HSE Advisor will work closely with supervisors, equipment operators, mechanics, subcontractors, and client representatives to identify hazards, verify compliance with safe work practices, conduct field inspections, investigate incidents, and ensure work is performed safely while protecting personnel, property, and the environment. Primary Responsibilities Provide visible HSE leadership during all night shift operations. Conduct routine field inspections and behavioral safety observations. Verify compliance with NANUQ-AFC and ConocoPhillips HSE requirements. Participate in pre-job planning, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs). Conduct toolbox meetings and communicate project safety expectations. Monitor high-risk activities, including excavation, heavy equipment operations, lifting activities, fuel transfers, and traffic control. Exercise and support Stop Work Authority whenever unsafe conditions exist. Investigate incidents, near misses, and environmental events, and assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions. Monitor housekeeping, PPE compliance, work zone controls, lighting, and environmental protection measures. Maintain accurate HSE documentation, inspection reports, observations, and daily reports. Coordinate with project supervision and client HSE personnel to resolve safety concerns promptly. Promote employee engagement through positive coaching, mentoring, and recognition of safe work practices. Minimum Qualifications Five (5) years of construction safety experience, preferably in heavy civil, oil and gas, mining, or North Slope operations. Three (3) years of field HSE experience supporting heavy equipment and earthwork operations. Working knowledge of OSHA, AKOSH, and applicable environmental regulations. Experience conducting incident investigations, hazard assessments, and safety inspections. Ability to work independently during night shift operations with minimal supervision. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office and electronic safety reporting systems. Preferred Qualifications Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification. Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification. CHST, OHST, CSP, ASP, or equivalent professional certification (preferred). Experience working on North Slope operator safety programs. Experience with winter construction, gravel mining, road construction, or remote camp operations. Knowledge of Arctic environmental protection requirements and North Slope work practices. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
