Job Goals:
Coordinate and support district-wide school safety, security, and emergency preparedness programs to ensure safe learning and working environments for students, staff, and visitors. Develop, implement, and evaluate safety plans, training programs, and emergency response procedures in collaboration with school administrators, public safety agencies, and community partners. Promote a culture of safety through proactive risk assessment, regulatory compliance, effective communication, and continuous improvement of district safety practices and initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience in emergency management, public safety, school safety, fire services, law enforcement, Homeland Security, military service, or a related field. Ability to meet suitability requirements for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Demonstrated experience in emergency planning, crisis response, incident management, safety training, or related safety and security programs preferred. Possess, or have the ability to obtain, certifications, credentials, or training required by state law, district policy, or job responsibilities. Knowledge of emergency preparedness principles, safety regulations, incident response procedures, and risk management practices. Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with school administrators, staff, students, public safety agencies, and community stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to maintain regular attendance, meet deadlines, and respond to situations that may occur outside normal work hours. Proficiency in oral and written communication skills. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities. Coordinate the development, implementation, review, and continuous improvement of district and school safety plans, emergency operations plan, and crisis management procedures. Maintain knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and best practices related to school safety, security, and emergency preparedness. Collaborate effectively with district leadership, school administrators, law enforcement, emergency management agencies, first responders, and other stakeholders to support safety initiatives. Conduct site visits throughout the district to assess safety conditions, inspect facilities, identify potential risks, and recommend corrective actions. Review and update school safety plans regularly and provide guidance and support to school administrators regarding safety and emergency preparedness requirements. Utilize Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, safety management systems, and other technology platforms to maintain records, prepare reports, and support safety planning efforts. Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, safety incidents, and crisis situations, providing coordination and support as needed. Assist with district communication efforts related to safety initiatives, emergency preparedness, training, and crisis response. Coordinate and support safety drills, exercises, training programs, and after-action reviews to enhance district preparedness. Engage in personal professional growth, adhere to professional standards, and demonstrate professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership. Maintain confidentiality regarding student/school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Demonstrate initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Respond to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Maintain and submit required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system. Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies and state, federal and local laws. Report absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures; prepares for substitutes according to Board policies and school procedures. Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
