Job Summary Under the general direction of the EHS & Sustainability Director, the Health & Safety Manager supports and advances all aspects of the Imerys Safety System and HS regulatory compliance. This role acts as a strategic catalyst—deploying and driving group-wide initiatives designed to eliminate operational risk, promote human & organizational performance (H&OP), and continually improve site-wide health and safety outcomes.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities Subject Matter Expertise:
Serve as the site subject matter expert for environmental, industrial hygiene, and safety protocols; interpret regulations and ensure successful local implementation.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:
Oversee, prepare, and submit all safety and environmental reports/permits on time and in strict accordance with MSHA, OSHA, and local regulations.
Training & Development:
Design, coordinate, and deliver mandated regulatory training (OSHA, MSHA) while mentoring and continuously building capabilities for Site Coordinators, Plant Managers, and Maintenance teams.
Incident Analysis & Innovation:
Lead Pre- and Post-Incident Learning Teams; compile, analyze, and interpret safety statistical data to identify exposure trends and drive corrective action plans.
Audit & Inspection Leadership:
Actively lead and participate in thorough site audits, tracking and managing the execution of safety improvements.
Stakeholder & Agency Liaison:
Maintain and manage collaborative working relationships with county, state, and federal regulatory bodies, as well as handling the workers' compensation process. Skills & Attributes Requirements Strong knowledge of Federal and State Safety regulations (MSHA/OSHA) with a proven track record of maintaining compliance and meeting tight regulatory deadlines. Experience developing and implementing modern safety methodologies such as H&OP, HPI, or Safety II. Demonstrated ability to navigate and deliver solutions within a changing environment or complex matrix organization. Proven capability to lead, coach, and align cross-functional teams toward shared organizational safety success. Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with comfort influencing stakeholders at all levels of the business. Self-motivated, proactive mindset balancing strong professional self-confidence with authentic humility.
Education & Experience Requirements Education:
Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate technical discipline (such as Environmental, Health, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field).
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Safety and Health roles within a mining, heavy manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment.
Preferred Certifications:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) are beneficial but not explicitly required.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions Environment:
Split role balancing standard office environments (40% Plant Office) with active, dynamic field operations (Up to 60% travel/field activity across plant and mining environments).
Physical Activities:
Variable field tasks involving walking/hiking across uneven terrain, climbing stairs or ladders, and working in close proximity to chemical processing, water bodies, and heated industrial equipment.
