PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION
Directs the company's overall Safety, Health, and Loss Control programs, providing strategic leadership and operational oversight across all phases of the organization. This role reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Salt River Materials Group and is responsible for coordinating all safety operations to ensure a safe, compliant, and proactive work environment. Oversees adherence to company policies, procedures, safety standards, and all applicable governmental and OSHA regulations, ensuring consistent compliance among management, supervisors, and employees throughout the organization.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Wear all required safety equipment including but not limited to hard hats, safety glasses, safety harness, ear plugs, dust masks and gloves This is a safety sensitive position to be performed with a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner Lift weights up to 25 lbs Climb 125' caged ladders and stairways Bending, kneeling and twisting in confined spaces and awkward positions Capable of hearing alarms and change in noise levels for safety purposes Stand or sit at control panels for extended periods of time Work at heights with required safety equipment without restrictions Required and predictable attendance Work in inclement weather when required or assigned Work weekends, nights, call outs, overtime and holidays as needed Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Ability to travel to all sites as necessary
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES A
Bachelor's Degree is required in Management, Safety or closely related field or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to manage a safety program Possess a certification as a Certified Mine Safety Professional and/or Certified Safety Professional, Professional Member of the International Society of Mine Safety Professionals and/or Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers preferred Knowledge in Aggregate Mining, Cement Manufacturing, Coal Combustion Products, and Construction Preferred Knowledge of safety regulations within the railroad industry preferred
OSHA/MSHA
Instructor Certification required Technical knowledge of hazardous materials is required Experience in emergency response and incident commander required Experience in full plant shutdowns for maintenance and repair of large production operations Possess training in Process Safety and/or HazOP Studies required Technical knowledge and application in Industrial Hygiene sampling for the mining and manufacturing process required Possess training in Hazard Communication for mining and manufacturing required Knowledge of electronic data processing as it applies to Safety
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Report to the CEO on a regular basis This position will supervise various designated safety managers and personnel within the safety department, including assigning, evaluating, and modifying work functions and processes Oversee
MSHA/OSHA
compliance Work with Safety Managers, Managers, Supervisors, and Employees to eliminate or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error, equipment, machine operations that may lead to human injury and/or property damage Implement guidelines, principles and practices for security management, security preventative practices to include business management practices, personnel practices, administrative practices, investigation procedures, and other related legal responsibilities Revise existing safety and health policies by business line as needed, conduct audits of safety and health program across business lines to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations Oversee the investigation and reporting of accidents, injuries, and incidents with Safety Managers and first line supervisors to resolve cause and identify prevention measures of each case. Supervise the maintenance and reporting of records for safety and health in business lines Interact with levels of management, and employees as needed to communicate safety and health policy, procedures, and guidelines Interact with environmental department, as needed pertaining to safety and health issues Coordinate with production/operations, human resources, information technology, and technical support to operate at a safe production levels Ensure training is provided to employees for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations by business line including 8 hour annual refresher Work with department staff to provide safety and health meeting resources for monthly safety and health meetings Ensure industrial hygiene sampling is completed as needed by business line Work with department staff to audit safety meetings to ensure quality and quantity of meetings and presentation skills of the presenter Review of safety department staff performance as needed Actively participate in industry specific local, regional, and national associations as directed by management Directs and coordinates, through subordinate managerial personnel, activities of operations department to obtain optimum use of equipment, facilities, and personnel. Reviews and analyzes expenditure, finance, and operations reports to determine requirements for increasing safety. Prepares recommendations on findings for management evaluation. Recommends capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment that would increase efficiency and safety of operations. Approves requisitions for equipment, materials, and supplies within limits of operations department budget. May negotiate contracts with equipment and materials suppliers.
