Job Description

Health and Safety Manager Location:
Lompoc, CA (100% On-Site). Relocation assistance is available.
Salary Range:
$130,000 - $150,000 / year (commensurate with experience)

Job Summary Under the general direction of the EHS Director (USA & Canada) and in lockstep with site leadership, the Health and Safety Manager will champion health and safety programs for our landmark Lompoc operation. This is a high-visibility, hands-on role requiring a heavy field presence ( 80% field / 20% office split). You will drive regulatory compliance, foster an active hazard-reduction culture, and lead continuous improvement in site safety performance through direct field engagement with operations and maintenance teams.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities Field Leadership:
Maintain a dominant field presence; work directly with operations, maintenance, and employees to identify hazards, improve work practices, and reinforce safety expectations.
Team Management:
Provide strategic oversight, mentorship, and development for your site safety team (H&S Specialist and Technician).
Regulatory & Training Compliance:
Oversee and coordinate all training mandated by
MSHA, OSHA
, and California state agencies. Ensure robust continuous training for Site Coordinators, Plant Managers, and Maintenance Managers.
Incident Investigation:
Facilitate post-incident reviews and employee safety discussions to uncover root causes and strengthen operational discipline.
Reporting & Permits:
Oversee the timely preparation, maintenance, and submission of all safety and environmental reports/permits in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations.
Contractor Oversight:
Support contractor safety management processes, including onboarding, compliance verification, and direct field oversight.
Workers' Comp:
Manage the workers' compensation process and reporting for the Lompoc workforce. Candidate Profile & RequirementsMust-Haves (Non-Negotiable):
Education:
Bachelor's Degree required (appropriate technical discipline such as Environmental, Health, Safety, or related field preferred).
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of Safety and Health experience within a mining, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment.
Supervisory Leadership:
At least 3 years of direct supervisory experience managing safety professionals.
Regulatory Competency:
Strong working knowledge of Federal and State safety regulations (MSHA/OSHA) and a proven track record of meeting regulatory deadlines.
Influence Without Authority:
Demonstrated ability to build relationships, engage the hourly workforce, and influence all levels of an organization toward a zero-harm mindset. Physical Requirements & Work Environment 80% spent out in the industrial minerals processing plant and mining environment ; 20% in an office environment. Physical activities involve climbing stairs/ladders, hiking terrains, working near heavy mining equipment, confined spaces, and hot processing equipment.
Travel:
Up to 10% travel to other Imerys locations and professional meetings. $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
