Job Description
The City of La Quinta is pleased to announce an opportunity for an Animal Control/Code Compliance Supervisor within the Public Safety Department in the Code Compliance Division. This division includes both Code Compliance and Animal Control, working together to maintain community safety, uphold City ordinances, and support residents with professionalism and care. This role is well-suited for individuals who lead by example, value a positive team culture, communicate effectively, and approach challenges with empathy and sound judgment. The Animal Control/Code Compliance Supervisor oversees code compliance operations, manages the City's animal control contract, and provides direct supervision to code administration staff, including evaluations, training coordination, and personnel actions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Conducts code compliance investigations and inspections of difficult, complex, highly sensitive, commercial, and/or large parcel/property complex cases as necessary and required. Conducts special studies, analysis, and projects within assigned division as requested; makes recommendations. Coordinates code compliance activities and schedules with other departments and agencies. Ensures safety procedures are followed. Maintains and analyzes program statistics; creates and presents reports. Prepares and administers contracts, agreements, grants, applications, specifications, etc.; processes payments; monitors budget; ensures service levels and contractual expectations are met. Provides input into budget; monitors expenditures; researches and makes purchases of supplies, materials, and equipment. Provides oversight to officers and attends and represents the City in municipal court actions related to code compliance. Researches and reviews regulations and laws and provides recommendations for updates to current practices, procedures, and regulations. Researches, responds to, and resolves public and internal inquiries and requests; provides notice to management regarding critical, sensitive, or elevated cases and situations. Supervises staff, including recruitment, training, creating and approving staffing schedules, assigning and reviewing work, conducting performance appraisals, recommending disciplinary actions, and facilitating meetings with staff. Performs related duties as assigned. Essential duties represent only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the department's needs.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Bachelor's degree and two (2) years' experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the job's essential duties. Licensing/Certifications Baton Certification within one (1) year of employment. Certified Code Enforcement Officer (CCEO) Designation within one (1) year of employment. CPR/First Aid Certification within ninety (90) days of employment. Pepper Spray Certification within one (1) year of employment. PC832 Arrest within one (1) year of employment. Valid Class "C" California driver's license.KNOWLEDGE OF

Maintaining effective working relationships with peers, public, and staff. Operating a computer and relevant software applications. Operating modern office equipment. Performing math computations, including basic statistics. Preparing written case reports and documents. Reading maps, blueprints, and plans. Researching and procuring supplies and equipment. Supervision and evaluation of staff and volunteers.WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to work flexible hours, which may include, but are not limited to, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. A city vehicle is provided for operational duties. In accordance with City policy, the assigned vehicle must remain at the designated facility and may not be taken home. Incumbents in this position work in indoor and outdoor environments and experience exposure to heat, cold, noise, wind, dust, and other extreme weather conditions; work on slippery or uneven surfaces; and may experience threatening people, animals, or other situations. Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, vision, hearing, talking, and foot controls are typically required.Light Physical Demands:
Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree.SELECTION PROCESS
