The Springs, one of the Coachella Valley's most respected and financially strong private residential communities, is celebrating its 50th Anniversary while undergoing a significant transformation through investments in infrastructure, technology, facilities, community enhancements, and operational modernization. To support this evolution, the Association seeks an accomplished executive leader to serve as its next Director of Safety & Security and help shape the future of this premier community. Reporting directly to the General Manager/Chief Operating Officer and serving as a member of the executive leadership team, the Director of Safety & Security will lead a broad portfolio that extends well beyond traditional security management. This strategic leadership role encompasses community safety, risk management, emergency preparedness, access control, operational standards, vendor accountability, resident engagement, and technology initiatives. The ideal candidate is a highly visible leader who understands that exceptional communities are built through the seamless integration of safety, hospitality, communication, preparedness, operational excellence, and resident trust, ultimately enhancing both community security and the resident experience. OVERVIEW
The Director of Safety & Security serves as the executive leader responsible for community safety, emergency preparedness, access management, resident preparedness initiatives, operational readiness, vendor accountability, risk management, and community resilience planning. The Director will lead the development of a proactive, service-oriented culture that balances resident safety, hospitality, governance compliance, operational excellence, and resident satisfaction. This role serves as a critical bridge between residents, staff, vendors, local agencies, committees, and executive leadership.
The successful candidate will oversee:
Contract security operations, Gate and access control operations, Visitor management systems, Community emergency preparedness programs, Business continuity planning, Community resilience initiatives, Community safety technologies, Northstar system implementation and optimization, Vendor performance management, Community operational readiness standards, Resident education and preparedness programs, Incident reporting and risk management programs The Director is expected to be a visible and approachable leader who actively engages with residents while fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, preparedness, and continuous improvement.
KEY LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Safety & Security Operations Direct and oversee all community safety and security programs. Manage contract security providers and establish measurable service standards. Ensure effective access control and visitor management procedures. Evaluate security technologies and recommend modernization initiatives. Maintain strong working relationships with local law enforcement and emergency services; lead investigations into incidents affecting residents, guests, employees, or community assets. Emergency Preparedness & Community Resilience Develop and maintain comprehensive emergency preparedness plans. Lead community readiness efforts related to wildfire, earthquake, utility outage, and extreme weather response. Conduct tabletop exercises, drills, and emergency simulations. Maintain business continuity and crisis management plans. Coordinate emergency communications and resident preparedness initiatives. Community Standards & Operational Readiness Provide leadership and oversight to maintain operational readiness throughout the community, including Gatehouse operations and appearance, Common area readiness, Lighting systems, Signage and wayfinding, Contractor compliance, Community inspections, and Operational standards monitoring. Vendor Performance Management Establish performance standards and accountability measures for contracted service providers. Develop vendor scorecards and audit programs. Monitor service delivery and contract compliance. Partner collaboratively with vendors while maintaining performance expectations. Resident Preparedness Programs Develop community-wide preparedness initiatives. Lead resident education workshops and awareness campaigns. Create proactive communications regarding safety and emergency readiness. Strengthen resident engagement in preparedness efforts. Technology & Systems Leadership Serve as executive sponsor and operational leader for the Northstar platform. Ensure successful adoption and integration of technology solutions. Evaluate future opportunities for operational automation and efficiency. Lead implementation of safety and access management technologies. Community Metrics & Reporting Develop meaningful operational dashboards and reporting systems for Gate operations, Visitor management, Incident tracking, Vendor performance, Community readiness, Resident satisfaction, and Risk management initiatives.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
The strongest candidates will possess broad operational leadership experience in environments where safety, customer experience, operational excellence, and stakeholder engagement intersect. Preferred Professional Background Candidates may come from one or more of the following environments: Master-planned communities, Homeowner Services & Operations, Community association management organizations, Private clubs and country clubs, Luxury hospitality and resort operations, Corporate campuses, Universities, Healthcare systems, Large-scale service organizations. Law enforcement, military, emergency management, or public safety experience may be beneficial but is not required. Beneficial Experiences Highly Desired
  • California HOA experience, Davis-Stirling Act familiarity, Community governance experience, Emergency management or business continuity experience, technology implementation experience, and Northstar experience.
Experience leading complex operational teams with demonstrated success in managing vendors and contract services. Experience implementing operational improvements and organizational change. Strong communication, planning, budgeting, and leadership skills. Experience with access control, visitor management, and safety operations.
EDUCATIONAL AND CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience including 7-10+ years of progressive leadership experience. Preferred Certifications•
PCAM, CMCA, AMS, CPP, PSP, CERT, FEMA
Emergency Management Certifications
