JOB JOB SUMMARY
Plan, develop, audit, manage, supervise, and coordinate the District's safety programs, environmental protection and hazardous waste storage/disposal activities. Provide highly responsive technical management assistance to ensure District compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Create, develop, provide and record training and educational resources for District personnel in area of responsibility.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIESPlan, supervise, coordinate and improve District safety related processes and activities. Conduct and participate in teleconferences, one-on-ones, staff, community and professional meetings. Serve on internal planning committees. Recommend and coordinate the development and implementation of policies, procedures and practices to ensure appropriate safety, security and environmental protection for District facilities, employees and equipment. Plan, prepare, and manage annual safety, and environmental budgets. Select, supervise, train, mentor and evaluate assigned professional, technical, and clerical staff. Respond to citizen complaints. Research and respond to management and employee requests for information. Be knowledgeable in federal, state and local regulations and create/deliver presentations for management and employee groups regarding safety and environmental compliance. Investigate and analyze employee accidents and on-the-job injuries to determine root cause and recommend corrective action in the form of administrative and/or engineering controls and/or the proper selection and use of personal protective equipment. Respond to emergency situations at all hours as needed. Direct and participate in periodic inspections of emergency action plans and practices at District facilities. Supervise, coordinate, and participate in required training for First Aid/ CPR/AED, HAZWOPER, confined space, gang awareness and other safety, security and environmental programs. Plan, direct, supervise, track and coordinate the classification, storage, transportation and disposal of the District's generated hazardous waste upon arrival and acceptance at HazMat building. Assist District personnel in the use and control of hazardous materials ensuring proper control, safeguards and selection and use of proper personal protective equipment when storing, handling, or cleaning up spilled material. Conduct audits of hazardous waste treatment/disposal/recycling facilities and approve or disapprove facilities for use by the District for the final disposition of generated waste. Review, develop and recommend facility/vendor/contractor contracts for transportation, waste disposal and recycling. Assist and accompany inspectors/officers from governmental and/or regulatory agencies while they are conducting audits/inspections/investigations of District facilities/job sites/processes. Comply with and assist other District personnel in complying with all District rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to safety, and hazardous materials. Perform other related duties as required or assigned by supervisor or senior management.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Necessary Special RequirementsPossession of an appropriate California driver's license. Must file a Statement of Economic Interest in compliance with Governmental Code Section 81000.Sign & Acknowledge a Confidentiality Agreement. Ability to obtain Standard First Aid/CPR instructor's credentials, 40-hour hazardous waste operations and emergency response, and eight hour supervisor training certification.
