Job Description:
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of Physical Environment and Emergency Management and Joint Commission standards to ensure organizational compliance.
  • Oversees updates to Physical Environment and Emergency Management plans, policies, and procedures based on regulatory or organizational changes.
  • Manages Joint Commission documentation, Life Safety Code requirements, and coordinates resolution of deficiencies with Facilities Management.
  • Coordinates maintenance and construction activities in collaboration with Facilities and Infection Prevention.
  • Serves as a liaison with external agencies to support community integration and emergency response collaboration.
  • Leads documentation, analysis, and reporting for the Annual Physical Environment Evaluation and Periodic Performance Reviews.
  • Develops and provides safety training related to fire prevention, emergency planning, hazardous materials, and utility systems.
  • Prepares reports, charts, and analyses for Physical Environment Committee meetings, including ICES data review.
  • Conducts safety inspections and hazard surveillance, ensuring timely corrective actions.
  • Manages hazardous waste activities, including inspections, storage, disposal, and regulatory reporting.
  • Guides departments in emergency preparedness, training, and response activities.
  • Directs the development and participation of personnel in the hospital's Decontamination Team.
  • Designs, reviews, and maintains emergency management plans, including disaster drills, hazard vulnerability analysis, and sustainability planning.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with EMS, Fire, Police, and other emergency management partners.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Computer experience required, experience with MS Office Suite preferred. [Required]
  • Must communicate effectively with peers, physicians, clinical and administrative staff. [Required]
  • Extensive working knowledge of Joint Commission Environment of Care standards as they apply to a health care facility [Required]
  • Knowledge of and experience with the NFPA Life Safety standards [Required]
  • Knowledge of and experience with chemical safety, disposal and EPA regulations [Required]
  • Knowledge of Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) [Required]
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills [Required]
  • Ability to make effective presentations to large groups [Required]
  • Supervisory knowledge with the ability to mentor, train, and coach direct reports. [Required]
  • Experience in conducting safety compliance surveys in a healthcare setting [Required]
  • Knowledge of
OSHA, NFPA, EPA, DOT
regulations, Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), and National Incident Management System (NIMS) [Preferred]
  • Experience conducting Life Safety Surveys [Preferred]
  • Previous total accountability for a hospital Environment of Care Program. [Preferred]
  • Experience in Joint Commission accreditation surveys [Preferred]
Education:
  • Bachelor's [Required]
Field of Study:
  • In occupational health and safety and health care
Work Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in a health care setting providing services related to environment of care, occupational health and safety, or life safety [Required]

    Pay Range:
