Safety Manager (Fleet and Logistics)
Role Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on, practical Safety Manager to take ownership of our safety operations and compliance programs. This role is built for an industry expert who understands how trucking works on the ground. You will hold accountability for our safety compliance, accident prevention strategies, and driver safety culture, utilizing your regulatory knowledge to protect the fleet and keep operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Compliance and DOT Oversight
  • Maintain absolute compliance with all FMCSA, DOT, and state-level transport regulations.
  • Monitor and defend the company profile, implementing robust corrective action plans to maintain strong scores.
  • Ensure the fleet is permanently prepared for formal DOT audits, intervention reviews, and roadside inspection challenges.
  • Oversee the integrity of driver qualification files, clearinghouse monitoring, and mandatory drug and alcohol testing protocols. 2. Fleet Risk Management and Telematics
  • Utilize fleet telematics like speed trends, hard braking, and dashcam data to identify patterns, predict high-risk behaviors, and proactively intervene before incidents occur.
  • Lead the investigation of all accidents, incidents, and near-misses. Determine root causes and implement corrective action plans.
  • Act as a key point of contact for insurance brokers and legal teams to handle vehicular and liability claims efficiently. 3. Driver Relations and Training
  • Oversee onboarding programs, monthly safety meetings, and ongoing professional development for drivers.
  • Champion a firm but fair culture that balances strict regulatory accountability with driver respect, keeping driver retention metrics strong.

Qualifications:
Practical expertise and a strong asset-based trucking background are valued over formal college degrees.
  • Prior safety management experience specifically within the transportation or trucking industry.
  • Strong knowledge of federal regulations, Hours of Service rules, and advanced electronic logging device management.
  • Experience utilizing fleet management software and telematics platforms like Samsara, Motive, or Lytx.
  • Proven ability to influence driver behavior, lead investigations, and effectively manage regulatory paperwork.
  • Flexibility to manage and direct emergency response protocols for critical road incidents outside of standard business hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 plus years of dedicated safety management experience within the asset-based trucking sector.
  • Certified Director of Safety or Certified Safety Supervisor credential from the North American Transportation Management Institute.
  • A prior history holding a Commercial Drivers License (CDL-A) is highly valued but not required.
