Job Description The Safety Specialist oversees and manages health and safety programs for all commercial and industrial jobsites and offices across the Pacific Islands. This role enforces safety training and policies, ensures compliance with OSHA, HIOSHA, and other jurisdictional requirements, and promotes a strong safety culture for employees and vendors. The Safety Specialist supports field and office operations through proactive risk mitigation, detailed reporting, and continuous improvement of safety processes. Responsibilities Oversee and manage the health and safety of all employees and vendors for all commercial and industrial jobsites and offices in the Pacific Islands. Enforce all jobsite and office safety training programs and safety policies across the organization. Maintain OSHA, HIOSHA, and other applicable jurisdictional safety processes, policies, procedures, certifications, and reporting requirements on site. Work under the guidance of the Safety Director to enforce occupational health policies and procedures that promote effective safety operations at the jobsite. Under the guidance of the Safety Director, ensure a safe jobsite and office environment by conducting orientations, skill training, proper job instruction, hazardous materials handling training, and training on the use of protective equipment. Assist with fleet safety initiatives and support fleet management activities for both jobsite and office operations. Create and maintain daily safety reports, accident and incident reports, and other jobsite reports, including severity rates and total project hours. Implement initiatives at jobsites and offices to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Represent the company and employee interests during safety or loss control investigations. Provide technical and administrative support to ensure effective safety management on site. Purchase, maintain, coordinate, and ensure cost-effective use of safety resources and equipment. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits on site to assess employee compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Participate in establishing safety requirements for subcontractors and ensure their compliance. Ensure compliance with company tool and personal protective equipment (PPE) programs on site, including adherence to OEM requirements, regular inspections for safety and quality, and completion of safety certifications such as fall protection where applicable. Perform other safety-related duties as assigned to support overall safety performance and compliance. Essential Skills Minimum of 4 years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment, such as construction or the renewable energy industry. Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Ability to conduct safety training effectively for diverse audiences. Strong supervisory and leadership skills to influence and guide safe work practices. High level of motivation, adaptability, detail orientation, and flexibility, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Strong multi-tasking, problem-solving, written communication, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in extreme environments, including hot sun, cold weather, and temperature extremes in homes and attics. Willingness and ability to climb ladders and stairs and work on rooftops and in attics of multi-level buildings. Ability to travel to job sites to perform site audits up to 25% of the time. Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screen. Proficiency with safety practices related to OSHA and general safety management. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in health and safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or a related field preferred. Certifications such as
OSHA 510, OSHA
500, CHST, STS-C, or
NFPA 70E
preferred. Demonstrated ability to write clear and accurate reports and documentation. Experience in safety management within construction or renewable energy environments. Comfort with using computers and software tools to prepare reports, track safety metrics, and document inspections. Ability to remain composed and effective under tight deadlines, shifting goals, and a changing environment. Work Environment The role primarily operates in an office setting with moderate to low noise levels and no extreme temperature variations. The position requires sitting at a desk for 6-8 hours per day while performing tasks on a computer, along with periods of walking and standing and some light lifting of files. Minimal bending, stooping, or reaching is required in the office. The work also involves regular visits to commercial and industrial jobsites, including rooftops and attics, where exposure to hot sun, cold weather, and other extreme environmental conditions is possible. Normal safety precautions apply, with minimal occupational health and safety risks when proper procedures are followed. The role demands considerable concentration and the ability to manage stresses related to a changing environment, organizational diversity, tight deadlines, high workload volume, and shifting goals. Travel to job sites for audits and inspections is required up to 25% of the time, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety tools are used in field environments. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waianae, HI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
