Job Description

Job Title:
Safety Specialist Job Description Assist, plan, and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), and Department of Transportation (DOT). Advise the Safety Director on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions. Plan and conduct training for employees on worksite safety practices and maintain safety files and records. Responsibilities Perform safety surveys and inspections. Prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented. Conduct post-accident investigations and prepare reports identifying possible causes and hazards. Accompany personnel to job sites to perform drug tests. Assist in the development, evaluation, and upgrading of safety programs. Manage inspection of job sites, equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe working conditions. Essential Skills 3-5 years of construction safety experience required. Experience with OSHA, First Aid/CPR, Confined Spaces, DOT, and/or Excavation safety. Bachelor's Degree in an environmental and/or occupational health and safety related field preferred. Experience writing detailed reports and procedures and documenting investigations. Experience presenting to and training small groups on safety procedures and regulations. Excellent computer and communication skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Civil/Excavation experience preferred.
OSHA 30, OSHA
500, EHS, Health & Safety, Inspection, Safety Audit, Industrial, CSP, CHST certifications are advantageous. CHST certification or ability to obtain within a year preferred. Work Environment Work is based in Cedar Rapids on data centers, with potential projects on both east and west campuses. Experience with trenching, sloping, fall protection, confined spaces, underground excavation, and installation of duct banks is beneficial. Some travel may be required a few days out of the month within a two-hour radius. The work schedule is Monday to Friday with 10-hour days starting at 6 am, extending to 10-12 hour days as needed. The dress code includes jeans, work boots, and work-appropriate t-shirt/sweatshirt, with high visibility vest, glasses, hard hat, and gloves provided on site. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
