Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Trucking Safety Manager to oversee safety, compliance, and regulatory responsibilities within our trucking operations. This role is responsible for maintaining driver qualification files, monitoring permits, handling DataQs challenges, managing tickets and violations, and assisting with accident reporting and follow-up. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance, driver safety requirements, and trucking industry procedures. This position plays a key role in keeping the company compliant, organized, and proactive in reducing risk across daily operations. Responsibilities Maintain and update Driver Qualification Files in accordance with FMCSA and DOT requirements. Track driver documents, including licenses, medical cards, MVRs, annual reviews, road tests, employment verifications, and required safety forms. Monitor company permits, registrations, authorities, and compliance documents to ensure they remain current and valid. Handle DataQs submissions, including reviewing inspection reports, gathering supporting documents, preparing challenges, and following up on pending cases. Review and manage driver tickets, violations, roadside inspections, and citations. Assist with accident reporting, documentation, claim follow-up, and internal accident investigations. Communicate with drivers regarding safety issues, violations, missing documents, and compliance requirements. Monitor FMCSA, DOT, PSP, CSA, and safety scores to identify areas of concern. Maintain accurate records of inspections, accidents, violations, permits, and driver compliance documentation. Work with dispatch, operations, drivers, and management to resolve safety and compliance issues. Help prepare for audits, safety reviews, insurance requests, and regulatory inspections. Develop and enforce company safety policies and procedures. Provide driver coaching and safety reminders related to inspections, logbooks, tickets, accidents, and DOT compliance. Stay up to date with FMCSA regulations and trucking compliance requirements. Qualifications Previous experience in trucking safety, DOT compliance, fleet safety, or transportation operations. Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, Driver Qualification Files, DOT audits, CSA scores, and compliance procedures. Experience handling DataQs, roadside inspections, tickets, violations, and accident documentation. Familiarity with permits, registration documents, insurance requirements, and trucking compliance records. Ability to organize and maintain accurate records with strong attention to detail. Excellent communication skills for working with drivers, dispatchers, management, insurance companies, and regulatory agencies. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle time-sensitive compliance matters. Experience preparing documents for audits, inspections, and safety reviews. Proficiency with computers, email, spreadsheets, and compliance or fleet management systems. Bilingual skills are a plus but not required. Preferred Experience Experience working with FMCSA Portal, DataQs, PSP, MCS-150, Clearinghouse, ELD systems, and driver qualification platforms. Knowledge of accident claims, insurance reporting, and corrective action procedures. Prior experience in a trucking company, logistics company, or fleet safety department. Position Summary The Trucking Safety Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the company, drivers, and equipment remain compliant with DOT and FMCSA regulations. This role requires accuracy, follow-up, strong communication, and a solid understanding of trucking safety procedures. The right candidate will help reduce violations, maintain proper records, support drivers, and protect the company's safety rating.
