Occasional travel to a secondary facility in Newton Falls, OH, approximately twice per year A heavy industrial manufacturer is seeking a Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager to lead safety, health, and environmental programs for a large manufacturing facility in Alexandria, Louisiana. This is a hands-on, plant-floor-focused safety leadership role in a heavy steel manufacturing environment with exposure to welding operations, confined spaces, production floor risk, contractor activity, capital projects, and industrial environmental compliance. The facility has a stable workforce with many long-tenured employees and is not viewed as a safety turnaround situation. The opportunity is to continue strengthening an already manageable safety environment, build proactive programs, maintain compliance, and help the organization stay ahead of risk as production activity evolves. The ideal candidate is a balanced, common-sense safety leader who knows how to drive accountability without being heavy-handed, manage incidents appropriately, and partner with operations in a practical, credible way. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage plant safety programs, policies, procedures, and work instructions. Promote a proactive safety culture focused on injury prevention and employee engagement. Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, job observations, and risk assessments. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety standards, and industrial safety requirements. Monitor safety performance metrics and develop corrective action plans. Lead investigations for injuries, near misses, environmental incidents, and property damage. Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions. Facilitate safety committee meetings and employee engagement activities. Develop and deliver EHS training for employees, supervisors, and contractors. Ensure required regulatory training is completed and documented. Coordinate contractor safety orientation and compliance requirements. Lead emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities. Partner with local emergency responders and regulatory agencies as needed. Manage fire prevention and emergency equipment inspection programs. Maintain records, reports, permits, and compliance documentation. Prepare EHS performance reports and presentations. Manage departmental budgets and safety-related expenditures. Supervise two direct reports at the Alexandria facility. Provide dotted-line EHS support for the Newton Falls, OH facility. Partner closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, HR, and production leadership. Spend significant time on the manufacturing floor coaching, observing, and engaging employees directly. Environmental Responsibilities Support and manage environmental compliance programs and documentation. Maintain compliance with air emissions, stormwater, wastewater, and hazardous waste requirements. Manage environmental permits, records, and reporting obligations. Coordinate spill prevention and hazardous material handling activities. Support regulatory inspections, audits, and agency inquiries. Ensure industrial waste disposal processes remain compliant. Track environmental compliance deadlines and documentation requirements. Onsite Medical Oversight Oversee onsite medical and occupational health activities. Coordinate physicals, fit testing, and annual medical testing programs. Support injury response, early intervention, and incident management activities. Assist with return-to-work and light-duty coordination. Apply balanced judgment around recordability, employee care, and compliance obligations. Partner with onsite medical resources to proactively address employee health concerns. Qualifications EHS, SHE, HSE, or safety leadership experience in manufacturing or heavy industrial environments. Strong safety background with environmental compliance exposure. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety standards. Working knowledge of EPA and environmental compliance requirements. Experience conducting audits, inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations. Ability to lead corrective actions and drive accountability. Experience developing and delivering EHS training programs. Strong employee engagement, coaching, and communication skills. Ability to influence employees and leaders at all levels of the organization. Comfortable working directly on the manufacturing floor in a heavy industrial environment. Practical judgment and common-sense approach to incident management and injury response. Experience managing people, safety staff, or EHS teams. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field preferred. CSP or related safety certifications are a plus. Preferred Backgrounds Heavy industrial manufacturing. Steel fabrication or welding operations. Railcar, transportation equipment, or industrial equipment manufacturing. Confined space safety programs. Contractor and capital project safety. Environmental compliance administration. Onsite medical or occupational health program exposure. Non-union manufacturing environments. Industrial plant operations or large maintenance environments. Why This Opportunity High-impact SHE leadership role for a heavy industrial manufacturing facility. Opportunity to influence safety culture directly on the plant floor. Stable workforce with many long-tenured employees. Current safety environment is manageable rather than a turnaround situation. Two direct reports and meaningful site-level responsibility. Strong onsite medical resources supporting proactive employee health and safety management. Opportunity to support both Alexandria, LA and a smaller Newton Falls, OH facility. Potential for increased manufacturing activity and long-term growth. Monday-Friday onsite schedule.Similar jobs in Alexandria, LA
