Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Facility Safety Technician, located at the Sebewaing and Caro Factory. Job Summary The Facility Safety Technician at Michigan Sugar Company is responsible for collecting data, maintaining safety equipment, participating in safety program evaluations and development. Technicians also assist in the inspection of workplaces and enforce adherence to regulations on safety, health, and the environment. The Facility Safety Technician aids as a contact for employees and site management concerning safety related matters. Primary Responsibilities Assists Director of Safety and Facility Safety Supervisors with implementing safety programs. Provides support to the Site Safety Supervisor in completing: Safety equipment and personal protective equipment inventories, inspections, restocking and cleaning as required. Collecting completed safety work permits and forms. Atmosphere monitor set-up and maintenance. Creation and maintenance of lockout/tagout (LOTO) kits. First aid kit inventory and restocking. Emergency eyewash and shower inspections and testing. Fire extinguisher inspections. Maintaining site safety records. Assisting in the scheduling of annual respirator fit testing and audiometric testing. Assists in the performance and documentation of site safety inspections and works with site management to mitigate any safety findings in a timely manner. Acts as a member of site safety committee providing support for Site Safety Supervisor. Works with Site Safety Supervisor and site management to mitigate hazards identified through the Safety Gram program in a timely manner. Provides support for all site safety programs. Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as directed. Position Qualifications Minimum 4 years of General Industry/Construction experience having had safety related responsibilities. A bachelor's degree in safety or a related field will be considered as fulfilling the experience requirement. Experience conducting safety inspections, as well as identifying, documenting, and managing production equipment hazards. Demonstrated excellence in oral communication. Working knowledge of Microsoft office software programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other computer software programs such as, but not limited to Adobe and ADP. Must be able to work flexible hours. Key Competencies Excellent communication skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to influence and motivate employees regarding safe work practices. Working knowledge of all relevant MIOSHA and Federal Safety Legislation and compliance.
