Job Description
SEC SHIELD
is looking for a Director of Safety, Security & Student Support that will be assigned to Troy School District. This is a 10 month (200 day per year) position. Candidates must submit an application by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 to be considered.Qualifications:
Prior law enforcement or military experience required Extensive knowledge of state/local policies and procedures regarding the administration of security and school safety programs Extensive experience in related fields of service; previous School Resource Officer (SRO) and/or law enforcement strongly preferred Knowledge of application of laws and regulations Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing- Demonstrated ability to work as a collaborative team member and ability to establish positive working relationships with district administrators, teachers, staff, students, and community members Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment, establish priorities and resolve problems Experience leading and conducting investigations Knowledge of ethical guidelines application to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations• Knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization, and administration Ability to effectively communicate and present to staff, public groups, or the Board of Education Competent with current technology and willingness to learn future technology• Ability to maintain complete and accurate records Demonstrated ability to build relationships Flexibility to work some nights, weekends, and during non-business hours as needed Strong work ethic and the ability to make effective decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures Such alternatives to the above qualifications as

may find appropriate and acceptable Position Summary The Director of Safety, Security & Student Support serves as the District's lead administrator responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive school safety, security, emergency preparedness, and behavioral threat assessment program designed to support a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position provides strategic leadership in school safety and emergency management while coordinating multidisciplinary prevention and intervention efforts related to behavioral health, student wellness, and threat assessment. The Director works collaboratively with District leadership, law enforcement, emergency responders, student services personnel, and community partners to ensure alignment between physical security, emergency preparedness, prevention strategies, and student support systems. The position is primarily focused on school safety, security operations, emergency preparedness, and risk mitigation, while supporting the integration of behavioral health resources and intervention services into the District's overall safety framework. Essential ResponsibilitiesSchool Safety & Security Leadership- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the District's comprehensive school safety and security program.
- Coordinate districtwide safety initiatives, emergency preparedness planning, crisis response protocols, and security operations.
- Conduct and oversee school safety and security assessments, identifying vulnerabilities and developing actionable recommendations.
- Collaborate with Facilities, Technology, Transportation, Athletics, and District leadership to support secure daily operations and special event safety planning.
- Oversee and support physical security systems and infrastructure, including access control, visitor management, surveillance systems, emergency communications, and related technologies.
- Develop and implement districtwide safety procedures, protocols, and best practices aligned with Michigan school safety requirements and national standards.
- Coordinate safety planning and response efforts for after school activities, athletics, special events, and large gatherings. Emergency Preparedness & Crisis Management
- Lead the development, maintenance, training, and implementation of District Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs).
- Coordinate emergency drills, tabletop exercises, reunification planning, and crisis response training activities.
- Serve as a primary liaison with local law enforcement, fire services, emergency management agencies, and community first responders.
- Support incident response, post incident recovery efforts, and after action review processes following critical incidents or emergencies.
- Maintain required emergency preparedness documentation, floor plans, critical incident maps, and compliance records. Threat Assessment & Prevention
- Lead and oversee the District's behavioral threat assessment and violence prevention processes.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary threat assessment teams to ensure concerns involving students, staff, or community members are properly assessed, managed, and documented.
- Support prevention based approaches focused on early identification, intervention, de escalation, and risk mitigation.
- Coordinate training for administrators and staff related to threat assessment, crisis response, situational awareness, violence prevention, and emergency procedures. Mental Health & Student Support Coordination
- Collaborate with student services personnel, school psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses, and community mental health providers to support student wellness initiatives and intervention efforts.
- Assist in coordinating behavioral health resources and support systems that align with the District's overall safety and prevention strategy.
- Support implementation of mental health awareness initiatives, staff training, and referral processes.
- Coordinate with student support teams to ensure appropriate collaboration during crisis situations and behavioral threat assessments. Leadership & Administration
- Serve as a member of District leadership teams, safety committees, and crisis response teams.
- Provide regular updates and recommendations to District administration and the Board of Education regarding school safety initiatives, trends, and priorities.
- Support grant management and compliance activities associated with school safety and Section 31aa funding.
- Maintain current knowledge of school safety laws, emergency management practices, behavioral threat assessment standards, and emerging security trends.
- Perform additional duties consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the position.
