Position:
The Director of Safety is responsible for leading the Company's safety, compliance, and risk management programs to ensure the highest standards of operational safety and regulatory compliance. This position develops and implements safety strategies, policies, and initiatives that support the Company's business objectives while protecting employees, drivers, customers, and the public. The Director of Safety provides leadership to the Safety Department, oversees FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and company compliance programs, and drives continuous improvement in safety performance, accident prevention, and risk reduction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage all company safety, compliance, and risk management functions.
  • Develop and execute the Company's overall safety strategy, goals, and performance metrics.
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability throughout the organization.
  • Direct and oversee Safety Managers and other Safety Department personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as the primary company representative during DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, insurance, and other regulatory audits and investigations.
  • Oversee accident, injury, and incident investigations and ensure proper root-cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Monitor and manage company CSA scores and develop initiatives to improve safety performance in all BASIC categories.
  • Oversee Hours of Service compliance, ELD compliance, Driver Qualification Files, and controlled substance and alcohol testing programs.
  • Review and approve safety-related SOPs, policies, corrective action plans, and compliance initiatives.
  • Analyze safety performance trends and provide recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Driver Success, Recruiting, and Human Resources to improve safety outcomes and reduce organizational risk.
  • Manage relationships with insurance carriers, legal counsel, third-party administrators, and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee vehicle accident claims management and loss prevention initiatives.
  • Lead DataQ strategy and review challenges submitted for inspections, violations, and accidents.
  • Develop driver coaching, recognition, and corrective action programs designed to improve safety performance.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety technologies, including ELD systems, telematics, dash cameras, and driver performance monitoring tools.
  • Prepare and present monthly and quarterly safety performance reports to executive leadership.
  • Manage departmental budgets and resources to achieve safety objectives.
  • Establish annual departmental goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Maintain emergency response procedures and coordinate responses to major accidents and critical incidents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by executive leadership.
Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Experience in transportation or logistics required.
  • Experience managing regulatory audits, compliance reviews, and safety programs in a transportation environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of FMCSA regulations, CSA methodology, Hours of Service regulations, and DOT compliance requirements.
Recommended:
OSHA Certification and/or Secondary Certifications such as NATMI Safety Supervisor or Safety Director Courses/Certification
  • Strong leadership, communication, investigation, and analytical skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
