RBE is family-owned company that has been operating in the Kansas City area for over 40 years. We are seeking a motivated Field Safety Manager to join our Safety Department, based in Kansas City and serving some regional projects. This position is primarily field-based and will be responsible for supporting construction operations through daily jobsite safety oversight, employee coaching, inspections, training, and regulatory compliance. The Field Safety Manager serves as a visible leader in the field, working directly with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and craft employees to promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company safety requirements. This position reports to the Director of Safety & Risk Management.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Conduct daily documented safety inspections of active jobsites and equipment. Work directly with project supervision to identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and verify deficiencies have been corrected. Conduct and document weekly Toolbox Talks (TBTs) with field crews. Perform routine safety observations and coach employees on safe work practices. Assist the Safety Director with new employee safety orientations and onboarding. Monitor compliance with company safety policies, OSHA, DOT, EPA, and customer requirements. Assist in accident, injury, property damage, and near-miss investigations as assigned. Complete detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate documentation. Conduct Industrial Hygiene (IH) monitoring as needed, including exposure monitoring for silica, noise, dust, heat stress, and other occupational hazards. Maintain inspection equipment and sampling records. Assist with emergency response planning and incident preparedness. Assist with post-incident and post-injury investigations; root cause analysis; and ensure proper completion of required documentation and reporting to the proper agencies. Assist with maintaining employee safety training records o Workers Compensation Management o Planning annual safety day for all employees Evaluate and maintain PPE inventory o Maintaining adequate stock levels o Issuing PPE to employees o Tracking inventory and usage Support project teams in implementing project-specific safety plans. Promote a positive safety culture through leadership, communication, and employee engagement.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess practical construction safety experience (3
  • 5 years of related experience) with concentration in the construction and/or heavy highway and bridge industry.
Candidates should demonstrate:
Strong leadership and communication skills Ability to build positive working relationships with field personnel Excellent organizational and documentation skills Ability to recognize hazards and implement practical corrective actions Self-motivation and driven Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Ability to travel frequently to construction projects A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field. OSHA 30 Hour First Aid, AED & CPR Certified 3
  • 5 years of experience as a Safety Specialist/Manager, or equivalent position required.
CHST, ASP, CSP or other safety related certification preferred.
