Job Description

Responsible for the evaluation of existing EH&S policies/programs and the implementation of new processes/procedures to ensure compliance with federal/state/ local laws as well as regulatory requirements. Oversight of the planning and managing of all responses to emergencies affecting community, site and employee health and safety. Designated as the site Responsible Official (RO) for the CDC Federal Select Agent Program (FSAP). Oversees compliance for all activities involving select agents, including biosafety, security, incident response, and occupational health program requirements. Duties & Responsibilities Provide direction, oversight, leadership and alignment of environmental, facilities, industrial hygiene, safety, loss prevention, and site services functions, directing the development, implementation, and maintenance of related policies, guidelines, procedures, and plans as required by internal and external regulations which incorporate current industry best practices. Oversee the maintenance and submission of compliance, permitting, and other regulatory records and reports. Direct the negotiation of OSHA and related licenses and permits with local, state, and federal agencies Oversee and manage industrial hygiene, hazardous waste, infectious and Infectious waste, air and water emissions compliance, and the sites construction safety and health program. Oversee site compliance with all laws/regulations governing community and employees as related to chemical right-to-know, biohazard handling and control. Develop and direct proactive safety and health program elements which provide leading indication of the effectiveness of the sites safety and health program. Develop a culture within the site where all employees become an extension of the Safety, Health and Environmental Department. Direct the Environmental, Health, Safety Departments' actions as a business partner in the planning, design, implementation of site safety programs, ensuring compliance with Corporate guidelines and policies. Direct Environmental Department in various environmental topics to include minimizing waste by playing an active role in the research, design, and start-up of equipment leading to a reduction in pollution via air, water or solid waste. Coach, mentor, lead and manage departmental employees. Ensure that training and other personal developmentprograms are in place for succession planning and thedevelopment of subordinates. Ensure that performance opportunities are pro-actively managed through the Performance Management system. Prepare capital, expense, and head count budgets Serves as the institution's designated authority ensuring full compliance with all Federal Select Agent Program (FSAP) regulations and institutional registration requirements. Serve as the primary liaison with CDC/DSAT, USDA/APHIS, and FSAP. Maintains the authority to implement any action necessary to ensure compliance, including restricting access, halting experiments, or enforcing corrective measures. Requirements Bachelor's degree in environmental, occupational health and safety or related discipline. In addition to bachelor's degree, a minimum of ten (10) years directly related EHS&S experience in biological manufacturing environment or related environment. Experience must be inclusive of a minimum of five (5) years progressive leadership experience to include leading a team of subject matter experts and/or moderate to complex EHS&S projects/programs. Demonstrated ability in influencing key stakeholders at a local and regional/global level.
