This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the
NY HELPS
Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under
NY HELPS
will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a
NY HELPS
title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
NON-COMPETITIVE
(NY HELPS)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of first-level supervisory experience in either the maintenance and operation of a physical plant; building construction; and/or building renovation and/or repair projects.
COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must be current state employees and have a reachable score on the Maintenance Supervisor 2 list; or Have a current permanent appointment with 1 year of service as a Maintenance Supervisor 2, or as a title eligible for transfer to Maintenance Supervisor 2; or Have an appointment as Maintenance Supervisor 2 here at UAlbany with less than 1 year of service (remainder of probationary period to be completed in new assignment); or Be a former state employee eligible for reinstatement to the title of Maintenance Supervisor 2 May be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates seeking consideration based on exam list eligibility must also respond to the active University at Albany canvass for this specific title
OPERATING NEEDS
Ability to manage a staff of 15 or more and workload for multiple Downtown campus locations; obtain and maintain a working understanding of all ITM requirements of all direct reports including but not limited to fire alarm systems, fire and smoke door inspections, vertical fire doors and shutters, emergency lights and exit lights, portable fire extinguishers, emergency power systems, fire pumps, water-based fire protection systems, emergency showers, eyewash and drench hoses, fire hydrants, evacuation drills, and fire protection backflow preventers; obtain and maintain a working understanding of all hardware and software utilized by Fire Safety staff, troubleshoot, correct minor equipment issues; ensure staff are trained and capable of properly utilizing assigned equipment, hardware, and software employed to carry out daily assignments.
