Job Description
H&L Contracting specializes in both land and marine construction with experience in dredging, bridge rehabilitation, coastal protection, and jetty construction. We have a proven track record working with the Army Corps of Engineers, New York State Department of Transportation, and numerous other state and local municipalities ranging from Massachusetts to Delaware. About the role The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing workplace health and safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA and local regulations, fostering a secure, hazard-free environment. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to conducting inspections, performing risk assessments, leading incident investigations, and conducting employee training to prevent accidents. Core Responsibilities and Duties Develops and enforces safety policies (OSHA, MARINE, DOT) to eliminate hazards. Conducts regular site inspections and audits to ensure equipment and procedures meet safety standards. Investigates workplace accidents, injuries, or near-misses, preparing incident reports and recommending corrective actions. Maintains comprehensive records of inspections, training, and injury logs (OSHA forms). Develops emergency action plans and serves as the primary contact for safety incidents. Follows up with job-site supervisors with regard to injuries, treatment plans, and return to work status. Required Skills and Qualifications In-depth understanding of OSHA, local, state, and federal safety guidelines. 7-10 years of hands-on experience in heavy highway /marine construction. Preferred certifications include Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety Manager (CSM), Certified Health & Safety Technician (CHST), OSHA 30 Training Experience supporting a union environment Educational Background Bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in Occupational Health and Safety, Civil Engineering or related science. Pay:
