The hospital is comprised of 545 beds and is a Level I Trauma Center, an Emergency Heart Care Station and a 911 Receiving Hospital. It is the premiere health care organization for key areas such as Surgery, Cardiology, Women's Health, Pediatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Renal and Mental Health Services. Hours Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position:
Under general supervision, is responsible for organizing and supervising the NYC Health + Hospitals System fire prevention and accident control program; performs related work.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
1. Consults with Superintendents and Fire Wardens regarding the improvement of methods of fire control and fire prevention, the setting-up of fire brigades, evacuation in case of emergencies, etc. 2. Advises on and assists in the planning of periodic fire and evacuation drills. 3. Investigates all fires and accidents, prepares reports and recommends control measures that may prevent recurrence. 4. Assists in furnishing safety education; initiates training programs; participates in safety conferences; arranges and conducts accident and fire prevention lectures; issues instructions on accident and fire prevention. 5. Inspects fire emergency equipment and the fire alarm systems; makes and supervises regular inspections to discover and correct unsafe conditions or unsafe work practices that may cause fires or accidents. 6. Records and follows-up on all notices of pertinent violations filed by other responsible municipal agencies relating to health care setting premises, and disposes of, by removal or otherwise, such violations. 7. Analyzes, interprets and maintains departmental statistics relating to fires and accidents. 8. Maintains liaison with City agencies, with private industry and with fire prevention associations, for information exchange, development of new techniques, etc. Minimum Qualifications 1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting agency and four (4) years of general experience in safety and accident prevention work, one (1) year of which must have involved responsibility for the conduct of an organized safety and accident prevention program; or 2. A satisfactory equivalent combination of training, education and/or experience.
