The Safety Manager position works with the Executive Team, Operations teams, Field Supervision and other Safety Managers to ensure compliance with safety and environmental procedures. This position reports to the CFO. This position's purpose is to co-lead the safety program both onsite and administratively, be a subject matter expert for all applicable safety regulations and site-specific safety requirements, and to guide and teach MM and subcontractor personnel to be safer - this is not just an enforcement position.Duties and Responsibilities :
Develop, maintain and suggest updates (if necessary) to safety programs or safety manual. Direct, plan, and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Advise on safety compliance concerns and suggest preventive actions. Attend initial meetings with the Project Staff and Subcontractor representatives to clearly define their role within the confines of the Project Safety Program; conduct and document pre-planning safety meetings with subcontractors' safety representatives and/or field leaders to establish safety procedures prior to subcontractor's activity on site. Review subcontractors' safety programs and ensure they meets or exceeds the project Safety Program requirements. Review and update content, as needed, for new-hire safety orientations. Check-in with new hires onsite or through project teams in first 90 days. Work with superintendents to create site-specific safety programs. Implement training for employees in work site safety practices. Schedule, track and conduct safety-related training (including, but not limited to, OSHA 10-Hour, OSHA 30-Hour, scaffolding/fall protection, CPR/First Aid, Rigging/Signaling, GHS, Trenching/Excavation, etc.) Support North Carolina safety as needed. Perform safety surveys and inspections, prepare written reports of findings & recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where needed, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented. Visit Ohio general contracting, masonry, wall systems, concrete and concrete restoration, and any additional departmental jobsites as needed. Ensure JSAs, weekly safety documentation, posters, manuals, SDS, toolbox talks are current and available in Procore. Represent Miles-McClellan during OSHA inspections. Report findings to Human Resources and Executive Management. Conduct post-accident investigations and prepare reports identifying the root cause and accident and hazard mitigation solutions for use by company personnel and senior management. Attend pre-installation meetings as required. Establish and maintain required job safety records. Conduct or attend bi-monthly safety meetings with executive and jobsite leadership teams. Support Safety Committee as requested. Requirements/Qualifications A four-year degree in Safety and Health or equivalent industry experience with at least two (2) years of safety experience or a combination of education/multiple years' experience in safety/environmental principals and techniques. Capable of identifying known potential exposures & safety risks and recommending corrections. OSHA 500hr certification. Thorough knowledge of construction methods, materials and installation procedures; building code requirements; construction costs; construction scheduling; estimating; engineering principles; and safety. Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing. Proficiency with Procore and Microsoft office suite. Ability to visit jobsites regularly, including navigating active construction environments. The above description covers the principal duties and responsibilities of the job.
