Daytime site coverage About the Opportunity Sheakley is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to support a general contractor on the construction of a new medical facility in Columbus, OH . This is an excellent opportunity for a construction safety professional who thrives in the field, understands the pace of large-scale building projects, and can work closely with project leadership, subcontractors, and field teams to keep work moving safely and efficiently. The Safety Manager will provide daily on-site safety oversight, support OSHA and project-specific compliance, identify and correct hazards, and help maintain a safe, organized, and accountable jobsite throughout an 8+ month assignment. What You'll Be Doing In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining a strong field presence and supporting safe execution across active construction operations.
Key responsibilities include:
Overseeing daily jobsite safety activities for medical facility construction operations Conducting site safety inspections, observations, and audits Identifying hazards and partnering with field leadership to implement corrective actions Supporting compliance with OSHA standards, site procedures, and general contractor safety expectations Leading or assisting with safety orientations, toolbox talks, and daily safety communications Reviewing work areas and activities to help ensure tasks are performed safely Monitoring high-risk work activities and providing proactive field support Maintaining accurate safety documentation, reports, and incident records Participating in incident response, investigations, and follow-up actions as needed Collaborating with project management, supervisors, and subcontractors to reinforce a strong safety culture What We're Looking For Qualified candidates should bring strong construction safety experience, confidence working in active jobsite environments, and the ability to communicate effectively with both field crews and project leadership.
Minimum qualifications:
OSHA 510 or
OSHA 500
required 8+ years of safety experience Construction safety background supporting active jobsite operations Experience supporting large-scale commercial or institutional construction projects Strong field presence, hazard recognition, and documentation skills Ability to work on-site in Columbus, OH Ability to work 50 to 60 hours per week Ability to support an 8+ month project assignment Preferred qualifications: BCSP certification preferred Medical facility, healthcare, commercial, or institutional construction experience preferred Experience coordinating with subcontractors on large active construction projects highly preferred Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is proactive, visible in the field, and comfortable working in a high-accountability construction environment. This person understands how to identify risk early, communicate clearly, follow up on corrective actions, and support safe production without creating unnecessary bottlenecks.
