Job Description

Director of Safety, Health & Environmental (EHS) Industrial Services and Environmental Cleaning Company Dayton, Ohio Area (Primary Location) About the Company We are a growing industrial services company providing vacuum, water blasting, confined space, and specialty cleaning services to customers across heavy industrial and manufacturing environments. Safety is treated as a core operating discipline and a fundamental part of how work gets executed in the field. As the organization expands into new regions, we are investing in senior safety leadership to ensure consistent execution, strong field presence, and scalable systems that support growth. Position Overview The Director of Safety, Health & Environmental is the senior leader responsible for company-wide safety performance, field training execution, inspections, audits, and customer-facing safety engagement. This role reports directly to the President and has full authority to stop work, hire and manage safety personnel, and enforce safety standards across all operating locations. This is a hands-on leadership role for a safety professional who prefers time in the field over a desk and is comfortable being visible on jobsites. This position is based near Dayton, Ohio, with monthly travel and regular, visible presence in the field. The Director will also participate in monthly safety committee meetings held in Dayton, Ohio.
Compensation Base salary range:
$135,000 - $155,000, based on experience, plus meaningful performance-based incentive tied to safety outcomes, training execution, and operational readiness. Key Responsibilities Lead and execute all safety, health, and environmental programs across multiple operating locations. Serve as the senior safety leader with direct access to executive leadership. Maintain full stop-work authority on any jobsite without prior approval. Hire, manage, coach, and develop safety managers, inspectors, and training personnel. Build and lead a scalable regional safety organization to support expansion into additional Midwest locations. Own and execute all field training programs, including onboarding, refresher training, certifications, and re-certifications. Ensure training aligns with actual field tasks, equipment, and operating conditions. Develop succession planning for safety leadership as the organization grows. Plan, conduct, and document jobsite inspections, audits, and safety observations. Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety events, including root cause analysis and corrective actions. Partner with operations leadership to drive safe execution without compromising productivity. Serve as the primary safety contact when interacting with customer safety departments. Participate in customer audits, pre-qualification reviews, incident reviews, and corrective action plans. Represent the company during third-party audits and regulatory interactions when required. Own the safety budget, including PPE procurement, inspection programs, replacement cycles, and cost control. Track and report safety metrics including incident rates, audit results, training completion, and trends. Serve as a standing member of the company safety committee and actively participate in monthly safety committee meetings in Dayton, Ohio. What Success Looks Like Consistent, disciplined safety execution in the field. Credibility with crews, supervisors, and customer safety teams. Clear, well-documented training and inspection programs. Reduced incidents, audit findings, and safety-related disruptions. A scalable safety organization that supports growth without compromising standards. Qualifications OSHA 30 certification required. Five or more years of safety, EHS, or operational safety leadership experience. Experience working directly with field crews in industrial, construction, or manufacturing environments. Demonstrated ability to lead with authority, credibility, and field presence. Comfort interacting with customer safety departments and auditors. Strong organizational, communication, and decision-making skills. Able to pass pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol testing, including hair follicle testing. Valid driver's license with a good driving record Willingness to travel monthly and maintain active jobsite visibility. Based in or willing to relocate near Dayton, Ohio. Industry experience in industrial services, construction, or heavy manufacturing is preferred but not required. Experience with managing data on clearinghouses such as Avetta, ISN and other similar platforms. Experience building or scaling safety programs across multiple locations is strongly preferred.
