Health Safety, & Environmental Manager
The HSE Manager (Health, Safety & Environmental) is a key member of the Marion Carton team and is responsible for implementing strategic and operational plans to drive both short and long-term objectives and provides world-class expertise through demonstrated leadership. The HSE Manager is a key member of Marion Carton team and is responsible for assisting with the management of the Health, Safety & Environmental function at the plant, implementing strategic and operational plans to drive both short and long-term objectives, and providing world-class expertise through demonstrated leadership. The position is responsible for assisting with the management of the HSE Management System and related matters to safeguard the health and welfare of all employees, vendors, contractors, visitors, etc. The Marion Carton HSE Manager supports the HSE global vision, mission, overall goals, and objectives.
The HSE manager will have a history of sustained results, leadership, prioritization, coordination, and consistent deployment of strategy, customer service and compliance are requirements for this position. Direct responsibilities include Health, Safety & Environmental regulatory compliance and support with medical and worker compensation groups. The individual works functionally and develops relationships to achieve compliance, positive employee and community relations, influences to create a positive HSE culture and drives results that achieve positive business performance. The individual will influence proactively in a dynamic work environment. Expected results focus on driving a proactive, sustainable, and continuously improving HSE management system, developing and enhancing employee H&S knowledge, innovating transformation, and performing with excellence.
Key Responsibilities and Job Functions:
Primary job functions include, but are not limited to the following: Managing various aspects of the Health, Safety & Environmental program for the plant
Participates in compliance program, including OSHA, state, and other federal regulations and maintains comprehensive knowledge of government Health and Safety regulations, and BWC (Worker's Comp)
Manages Worker's Compensation and attends all hearings
Implements plans and delivers results in a fast-changing business and regulatory environment by participating in Paperboard Manufacturing Division Health and Safety initiatives to drive process improvements
Provides input to the manufacturing plant and departmental strategy
Coordinates, plans, and drives Health and Safety Committee reviews, participates in, and provides guidance and support for Area Health and Safety Team Meetings Contributes directly to Paperboard Manufacturing Facility priorities and planning
Provides solutions to complex Health and Safety and security issues, serving as the Health and Safety leader
Designs, develops, implements programs, and oversees the aspects of the plants' First Responders, OSHA Audiometric and Respirator fit testing, Process Safety Management, and industrial hygiene
Assist all department managers with corrective actions for safety or other incidents
Assure completion of Monthly, Semi-Annual, and Annual EPA Air permit reporting.
Manage waste documentation for compliance
Update daily HSE board
Perform safety GEMBA walks Facilitate safety eyewear and safety shoe program
On call 24/7 as needed in the event of an emergency
Responsible for Safety & Environmental new hire orientation Attend monthly Chamber of Commerce safety meeting
Investigates incidents, develops corrective and preventive actions, promotes Health and Safety-conscious work performance
Drives hazard identification and risk reduction across the plant
Complete ergonomic assessments
Must be knowledgeable in BBS
Maintain CPR/First Aid certification
Update train-the-trainer status and PIV training as needed
Increase near-miss reporting for prevention of a more serious event
Works closely with OSHA officials, state police, Hazmat, community representatives, and other officials
Manages and documents Health and Safety audits and inspections
Determines Health and Safety training requirements and schedule and provides or coordinates training for employees applicable to their work processes
Directs and coordinates appropriate, timely, and cost-effective delivery of health care related to disability, urgent and emergency care, work limitations, transitional return to work plans, accommodations and part-time work for workers compensation and non-workers compensation for illness and injury
Actively participates in machine outages to oversee the Health and Safety aspects of the process
Other duties as assigned Background:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in health and safety and/or related field or 3-5 years of experience in a related field
Possesses broad technical expertise, business and industry knowledge, and process and people leadership capabilities
Paper manufacturing experience preferred Required Skills:
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
