The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager, specializing in Human and Organizational Performance (HOP), plays a critical role in advancing our safety culture and operational excellence. This role is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that enhance workplace safety, mitigate risk, and improve organizational effectiveness through a no-blame, learning-focused culture. This leader partners closely with Plant Managers and cross-functional teams to analyze human factors, organizational behaviors, and system interactions—proactively identifying opportunities to reduce risk and improve performance. The HSE Manager will champion HOP principles by driving engagement, delivering impactful training, and embedding safety into all levels of the organization. Key Responsibilities Partner with Plant Managers to provide expert guidance and technical direction to ensure safe and compliant operations Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication, training, and employee engagement initiatives Analyze human performance factors (e.g., decision-making, cognitive biases, behaviors) contributing to safety incidents and identify improvement opportunities Collaborate cross-functionally to design and implement targeted interventions that enhance safety outcomes Assess operational risks related to human error, organizational dynamics, and process gaps; implement mitigation strategies Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and corporate HSE regulations and standards Integrate HOP principles into existing HSE systems, processes, and programs Develop and deliver training on human performance, error reduction, and safety leadership across all levels of the organization Primary Duties & Responsibilities Coordinate safety compliance programs with facility leadership to reduce risk for employees, contractors, and visitors Develop, implement, and maintain HSE training programs aligned with regulatory and corporate requirements Establish and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and management systems Conduct site audits and inspections; identify risks and drive corrective actions Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and regulatory records Manage internal and external reporting requirements, ensuring timely and accurate submissions Track and drive closure of corrective and preventative actions to reduce future incidents Lead the rollout and execution of HSE programs across the facility Oversee Workers' Compensation processes, including case management and return-to-work coordination Plan and prioritize daily HSE activities to meet internal goals and regulatory obligations Determine appropriate medical treatment pathways for work-related injuries Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and external partners Qualifications Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field - OR - 6+ years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety in lieu of a degree 4-5 years of experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment Preferred Qualifications Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, or equivalent Strong environmental and regulatory knowledge Proven experience building and leading effective HSE programs Project management experience Background in industrial manufacturing environments 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience Additional Information The preceding job responsibilities and tasks were designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by associates in this job.
