This role ensures the Company operates in full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, RCRA, DOT, and NFPA. The EHS Manager must identify, assess, and correct workplace hazards and is expected to exercise independent judgment in making decisions that protect employee health and safety across the Company. This position requires regular presence on the production floor to conduct safety inspections, hazard assessments, and risk evaluation; the EHS Manager must be capable of recognizing unsafe conditions, initiating investigations and corrective actions, and collaborating with other departments to implement effective solutions. The EHS Manager also oversees the Company's hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, incident investigation, regulatory sampling, and EHS training. This position will report directly to Smooth-On, Inc.'s Regulatory Counsel. Essential Job Functions Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Policies Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS compliance programs, procedures, and SOPs (e.g., hot work, enclosed space, fall protection, industrial hygiene, lockout/tagout, etc.), with a focus on practical, floor-level application. Establish and maintain standards for the creation, collection, and retention of EHS documentation, including training records, safety manuals, incident reports, and other documentation. Independently conduct regular safety inspections, hazard assessments, and risk evaluations throughout production and operational areas, maintaining a visible presence on the floor. Identify, document, and correct unsafe conditions, exercising independent judgment and authority to halt or modify operations as needed to protect health and safety. Lead, deliver, and maintain records of EHS training programs for employees in an engaging, hands-on manner and evaluate training effectiveness to ensure employee understanding. Perform risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and routine audits to proactively identify weaknesses or risks and implement corrective actions to ensure a safe and healthy work environment exists at all times. Promote a safety-first culture through visible leadership and direct engagement with employees by performing regular safety inspections/walk-throughs and leading safety committee activities. Monitor, interpret, and ensure company-wide compliance with OSHA, EPA, RCRA, DOT, NFPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Manage inventory and purchasing of safety equipment, ensuring suitability for all operational needs. Incident Investigation Lead investigations into workplace incidents and near misses, ensuring root causes are appropriately identified and addressed, and that appropriate corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence. Maintain comprehensive records of all incidents, corrective actions, and follow-up activities. Manage incident report tracking, compile safety metrics, and report safety metrics to leadership. Lead internal and external regulatory and safety audits of safety-sensitive areas and equipment. Exercise sound decision making in reporting and escalation of incidents. Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant reporting by supervisors, providing guidance and oversight to ensure reports meet regulatory and company standards. Follow up on corrective actions to verify completion and effectiveness. Waste Management Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal practices, ensuring compliance with RCRA and state requirements. Maintain direct oversight of waste accumulation areas, conducting regular inspections to verify proper labeling, storage conditions, and inventory. Develop, implement, and manage waste disposal procedures, emphasizing waste minimization and timely disposal. Evaluate waste streams and implement process improvements to reduce waste generation and optimize disposal methods. Schedule waste disposal and ensure all required documentation (e.g., manifests, waste determinations) is complete, accurate, and retained in accordance with regulatory requirements. Negotiate contracts with waste disposal vendors and help control the operational cost of waste disposal and recycling activities through effective contract management. Industrial Hygiene & Monitoring Perform respirator fit tests, air sampling, noise monitoring, and other OSHA monitoring tests as needed. Evaluate workplace conditions to determine when additional sampling or monitoring is required based on observed hazards, employee exposure potential, and regulatory thresholds. Interpret sampling and monitoring results to assess compliance and determine whether corrective actions or process changes are required. Initiate and implement corrective actions where exposure levels present potential health risks. Maintain records of monitoring data, calibration, and equipment used. Manage selection and procurement of PPE and safety equipment and continuously evaluate PPE effectiveness based upon identified hazards and monitoring data. Cross-Functional Coordination Collaborate directly with Operations, Engineering, Shipping, Lab, and other departments to resolve safety issues and implement EHS policies. Communicate and enforce EHS requirements, findings, trends, and actions clearly and assertively across all levels of the organization. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated ability to independently identify hazards and make timely, effective decisions to correct them. Demonstrated ability to take decisive action in response to unsafe conditions, including stopping work or escalating issues when needed. Strong practical problem-solving skills, with the ability to implement effective, real-world solutions. Strong working knowledge of applicable regulations, including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, RCRA, DOT, and NFPA regulations. Highly organized with strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate safety issues assertively and diplomatically. Ability to multi-task across projects and prioritize in a dynamic environment. Comfortable being present on the production floor and engaging directly with employees at all levels of the organization. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Job Requirements Ability to work alternative hours when needed to support EHS monitoring and training across three shifts. Minimal travel required.
