Who We Are Looking For:
The Public Safety Manager at the Philadelphia Zoo will have a variety of duties focused on supporting subordinate officers, managing daily operations, and ensuring safety throughout the site. This role will report directly to the Director of Public Safety or their appointed representative. The Public Safety Manager is a salaried, on-call position, with a schedule designed to accommodate the Zoo's needs and safety requirements. Additionally, the Public Safety Manager will comply with all Zoo policies, departmental regulations, and applicable state and local laws, while also aligning with all departmental and zoo guidelines.
What You Will Do:
Oversight of the patrol function within the Public Safety Department, which includes seasonal bag screening and Gate H operations. All patrol strategies will be coordinated through bi-weekly meetings with the Director of Public Safety to maintain continuity and align with the department's vision. Reporting responsibilities and evaluation of subordinate supervisory staff. On-call responsibilities, whether scheduled or as designated by the Director of Public Safety, include responding to phone calls, texts, and emails, as well as addressing after[1]hours inquiries to the Zoo as necessary Development of emergency action plans (EAP) tailored to events occurring on the Zoo grounds, in collaboration with the Logistics Specialist and the Director of Public Safety.
North Gate bag screening:
Involves training, screening comparisons, trend identification, and operational planning in conjunction with the Director of Public Safety and patrol supervisors. Establishment, creation, and implementation of a new public safety staff onboarding program, with completion submitted to the Director of Public Safety. Support for all departmental and Recapture Team drills. Completion of work orders related to safety, as well as proper notification to the risk management team when needed. Assistance with policy development as required, including responsibility for new staff training requirements and policy overview. Act as a liaison between Patrol Supervisors and the Director of Public Safety concerning all work-related matters that could impact work functions. Serve as a secondary point of contact for external partners or managerial staff when designated by the Director of Public Safety. Other duties as assigned
What This Role Requires:
Keep all existing certifications up to date. Ensure all current ICS (FEMA) certifications are maintained. Have prior supervisory experience Possess a solid understanding of all Public Safety systems, including CCTV, Access Control, Evolv, Ally CAD, Report It, Relay, and any others identified Successfully fulfill all recapture team responsibilities and be available to serve as a Recapture Team member. Be able to obtain ACT 235 Certification or possess an active ACT 235 Certification.
Working Conditions, Physical, Medical & Additional Requirements:
As assigned based on the nature of this role and changes made within the department. Must successfully complete drug test and tuberculosis test prior to assuming position; Ability to lift 15lbs, may require combination of sitting, standing, walking throughout the Zoo, Successful completion of a post-offer (yearly) criminal and child abuse clearances prior to assuming position, Must be able to utilize the following equipment, e.g., computer, telephone, copier and printer. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to become ACT 235 certified and stay ACT 235 certified. Must be able to work overtime voluntarily or when assigned. Must be able to work either day or night shift if needed. Must be able to work independently if required. Must be able to work in all types of weather.
