Job Title:
Construction Safety Manager Job Description The Construction Safety Manager promotes and enforces a strong safety culture across active construction sites. This role ensures compliance with OSHA and internal safety standards, reduces risk exposure, and supports project teams by proactively identifying, correcting, and preventing safety hazards on commercial, industrial, and heavy civil projects. Responsibilities Enforce OSHA, internal, and client safety policies across multiple construction sites. Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to identify and mitigate risks. Develop and implement Site Specific Safety Plans tailored to each project and scope of work. Lead and deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training sessions for employees and subcontractors. Investigate incidents, near misses, and injuries, and prepare thorough reports with root cause analysis and corrective actions. Monitor subcontractor compliance with all safety requirements and address deficiencies promptly. Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety documentation, logs, records, and regulatory reports. Serve as the on-site safety authority and primary point of contact for all safety-related matters. Assist project leadership with job hazard analyses (JHAs) and risk mitigation planning. Support and participate in regulatory inspections and coordinate timely corrective responses. Contribute to the continuous improvement of safety programs, procedures, and site safety practices. Collaborate with environmental health and safety (EHS) stakeholders on industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and hazardous waste management considerations. Essential Skills 10+ years of construction safety experience in commercial, industrial, or heavy civil environments. Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices. Proven experience performing safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments. Hands-on experience conducting incident and near-miss investigations and implementing corrective actions. Experience delivering safety training, orientations, and toolbox talks to diverse field teams. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in active construction environments with multiple trades and subcontractors. Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with field staff, subcontractors, and leadership. Solid documentation and data entry skills for maintaining safety logs, reports, and regulatory records. Proficiency in safety management, safety procedures, and safety program implementation. Working knowledge of environmental health and safety (EHS), industrial hygiene, and ergonomics. Understanding of hazardous waste handling and related safety requirements. Ability to support and influence compliance with OSHA, construction safety, and environmental health regulations. Additional Skills & Qualifications OSHA 30 certification (required for most roles). OSHA 500, 510, or 511 certifications. CSP (Certified Safety Professional) credential. CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) credential. Experience with environmental health and safety (EHS) programs on construction projects. Background in industrial, commercial, or heavy civil construction safety management. Familiarity with safety program development and continuous improvement initiatives. Ability to collaborate with project teams to integrate safety into planning and execution. Work Environment This role operates primarily on active construction sites in commercial, industrial, and heavy civil settings. The Construction Safety Manager spends significant time in the field conducting inspections, audits, and training in dynamic, fast-paced environments with ongoing construction activity, equipment operation, and multiple subcontractors on site. The position requires regular walking, climbing, and navigating uneven terrain, as well as frequent interaction with field crews and project leadership. Standard safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) are required and used routinely. Some office-based work is also involved for documentation, reporting, and planning using standard computer and data entry tools. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Memphis, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $55.29/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
