Job Description

Skills Overview Nashville Construction Company is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Director of Safety to lead safety operations across heavy civil, earthwork, and demolition projects. This position works closely with field supervision and project management to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety standards, and client requirements while promoting a strong safety culture throughout all job sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct routine site safety inspections and audits for heavy civil, grading, excavation, utility, and demolition operations Assist with implementation and enforcement of company safety policies and procedures Lead new hire safety orientation and ongoing toolbox talks Monitor compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action taking Maintain safety documentation including SDS logs, training records, and inspection reports Coordinate with superintendents and foremen to identify and mitigate job site hazards Ensure proper PPE usage and safe operation around heavy equipment and excavation activities Assist with traffic control, trench safety, confined space, lockout/tagout, and fall protection programs Participate in project safety meetings and client safety reviews Track and report leading and lagging safety indicators Support drug testing, fit testing, and safety training initiatives
Qualifications:
10+ years of constructions safety experience preferred Experience in heavy civil construction, earthwork, excavation, underground utilities, or demolition stronly preferred Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926) Ability to work in active outdoor construction environments Strong communication and organizational skills Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital reporting systems
Preferred Certifications:
OSHA 30 Construction First Aid/CPR Certification CHST or STSC Certification preferred but not required Competent Person training (excavation/trenching preferred)
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk uneven terrain and active construction sites daily Ability to climb ladders, enter trenches, and work around heavy equipment Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions

Pay:
$80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
