Job Description

Position Summary The Environmental Health Safety and Security Director is responsible for strategic leadership and oversight of all Safety, Health, and Environmental Control functions across the Otsuka Icu Medical (OIM). This role ensures full compliance with Otsuka ICU Medical, Federal, State, and local regulations and policies related to safety, industrial hygiene, fire codes, environmental standards and site security. To ensure a safe and secure working environment for all employee, facilities, assists, and products. The Director provides expert guidance to senior leadership, interprets complex data, identifies systemic risks, and drives enterprise-level solutions to prevent injury, environmental impact, security and property loss. As a key member of OIM's executive leadership team, the Director influences plant-wide policies and contributes to long-term operational planning. This role requires a results-driven leader with strong analytical capability, operational expertise, and the ability to influence a matrixed, fast-paced organization. Essential Duties & Responsibilities - EHSS Lead the development and execution of the facility's EHS strategy in alignment with corporate goals and regulatory requirements. Maintain expert-level knowledge of applicable Safety/Industrial Hygiene/Environmental regulations and proactively advise executive leadership on compliance and risk mitigation. Analyze enterprise-wide EHS data to identify trends, set strategic goals, and implement high-impact solutions. Partner with the VP of Operations and senior staff to shape plant-wide policies, procedures, and cultural initiatives that reduce risk and enhance operational resilience. Develop and manage the EHS department budget, including strategic investments in safety technologies, infrastructure, and training. Build and lead a high-performing EHS team; oversee recruitment, development, performance management, and succession planning. Serve as the primary technical authority on complex safety, environmental, ergonomic, and fire protection matters. Provide strategic input during capital projects and process changes to ensure early integration of loss control measures. Oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of key programs such as lockout/tagout, confined space entry, industrial hygiene monitoring, hearing conservation, and chemical safety. Champion a culture of safety through executive-level communication, training programs, and performance incentives. Act as the facility's principal liaison with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders on all EHS matters. Lead emergency preparedness planning, including disaster recovery, spill response, and crisis communication. Provide executive-level reporting on incidents, risk exposure, and mitigation outcomes. Serve as the primary contact for insurance-related loss control and fire protection inspections. Active member of the site's senior leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and operational excellence. Mange the day-to-day (24-hour) operations of the Security Department - including the contract Officer force, through personnel staffing, training, coordination of post orders, security procedures and policies, and of Officer tours. Provide managerial oversight for the Account Manager, contract service company, and contract officers for multiple locations. Lead and implement processes to ensure 24/7 coverage and effective threat detection and response which includes monitoring OnGuard alarms on Lenel system. Manage the maintenance of employee, visitor, and contractor badges (activation and deactivation) to include 30-day contractor extensions across the enterprise system and employee non-compliance with site regulation training. Provide support within the ServiceNow Portal to process transactions. Establish and maintain a working relationship with local law enforcement. Communicate with state and federal agencies, such as, FDA, EPA, HAZMAT, DOT, NRC and DEA etc., when appropriate, and assist with state and government audits when required. Conduct investigations regarding employee facility access, theft, diversion, sabotage, controlled substance, losses/variances, burglaries, security policy violations, as well as other activities that would result in a loss of company assets. Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications Demonstrated ability to set and execute strategic plans aligned with business unit objectives. Proven leadership in driving cross-functional change and influencing without direct authority. Expertise in navigating complex, multi-dimensional challenges with operational, financial, and human impact. Deep mastery of EHS disciplines and ability to integrate knowledge across functions. Operates with minimal supervision; sets site-wide EHS direction with input from global leadership. Accountable for regulatory compliance affecting product introduction, operational costs, and public reputation. Direct influence on insurance costs and workers' compensation through proactive risk management. Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
Professional certifications strongly preferred:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). Minimum 10 years of progressive EHS experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role. Proven track record in strategic loss control, regulatory compliance, and emergency response. Strong understanding of manufacturing operations and mechanical systems.
