Safety & Compliance Manager - Commercial Trucking Fleet (35 Trucks)

Full-Time Position Summary The Safety & Compliance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining all safety and regulatory compliance programs for a commercial trucking fleet of approximately 35 trucks. This position ensures compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company policies while promoting a strong culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate has experience in transportation safety management, DOT compliance, driver coaching, accident investigation, and fleet operations. Key Responsibilities Safety & Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with all FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and state transportation regulations. Maintain driver qualification files, medical cards, CDL records, and training documentation. Monitor Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and ELD reporting. Manage drug and alcohol testing programs, including random testing requirements. Oversee vehicle inspection, maintenance, and repair compliance records. Conduct internal safety audits and prepare for DOT audits and inspections. Track and manage CSA scores and implement corrective action plans when needed. Driver Safety & Training Conduct new driver orientation and ongoing safety training. Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and best practices. Coach drivers on safe driving habits, accident prevention, and regulatory compliance. Review dash cam footage, telematics, and driver performance data. Schedule and conduct regular safety meetings. Incident & Claims Management Investigate accidents, incidents, and safety violations. Prepare incident reports and coordinate with insurance providers when necessary. Implement corrective actions and preventive measures to reduce accidents and claims. Monitor trends and recommend operational improvements. Fleet & Operational Support Work closely with dispatch, maintenance, and operations teams to support safe fleet performance. Assist with maintenance compliance scheduling and documentation. Monitor fleet safety KPIs and prepare monthly reports for management. Ensure all permits, registrations, and licensing requirements remain current. Qualifications Minimum 3-5 years of experience in transportation safety, fleet compliance, or trucking operations. Strong knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations. Experience managing ELD systems, driver files, and safety programs. Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to conduct investigations, training, and compliance audits. Proficient in Microsoft Office and transportation management/safety software. CDL preferred but not required. Preferred Skills Experience with fleet telematics and camera systems. Knowledge of CSA scoring and DOT audit preparation. Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
