The FSQA Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily food safety and quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with internal programs, regulatory requirements, and customer standards. This role provides hands‑on leadership to FSQA staff, supports audits and inspections, and works cross‑functionally to maintain product safety, quality, and regulatory compliance in a fast‑paced food production environment.
Essential Functions:
Quality & Food Safety Oversight:
Supervise daily FSQA activities across production, warehouse, and shipping areas. Ensure compliance with SQF, GMP, HACCP, SOPs, and customer requirements. Verify completion and accuracy of food safety, quality, and sanitation records. Oversee product inspections, in‑process checks, and finished product verification.
Leadership & Team Support:
Supervise, train, and coach QA Technicians and QA Leads. Assign daily tasks and ensure adequate FSQA coverage for all shifts. Reinforce expectations related to GMPs, food safety culture, and documentation accuracy. Support onboarding and ongoing training of FSQA staff.
Issue Management & Corrective Actions:
Identify, investigate, and document food safety or quality deviations. Place product on hold when necessary and coordinate disposition with management. Lead or support root‑cause analysis and corrective action implementation. Verify effectiveness of corrective actions and preventive measures.
Audits & Regulatory Compliance:
Support third‑party, customer, and regulatory audits and inspections. Assist with preparation of audit documentation and responses. Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure audit findings are addressed and closed in a timely manner. Cross‑
Functional Collaboration:
Partner with Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Operations leadership. Communicate food safety and quality expectations clearly across departments. Support sanitation pre‑op inspections and operational readiness. Promote a strong food safety culture throughout the facility. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree in food science, biology, or related field preferred.
Experience:
4+ years of FSQA or food safety experience within a food production or processing environment.
Skills:
Prior experience working under GMP, HACCP, and food safety programs. Demonstrated ability to lead, train, or mentor others. Conflict resolution and coaching. Strong communication and documentation skills. Ability to work in cold, wet environment for extended periods. Strong observation, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to use measurement tools, scales, thermometers, and verification devices. High attention to detail and accuracy. Strong commitment to food safety and regulatory compliance. Ability to stand as a role model for GMPs and safety practices. Effective communication across multiple departments. Problem‑solving and analytical thinking. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. May require flexibility and ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overtime during peak production periods.
Work Environment:
Primarily in a food production facility, exposed to cold refrigerated environments (34Fº to 38Fº) for long periods of time. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and sanitizers. Strict adherence to GMPs, HACCP, PPE requirements (nonslip boots, gloves, hairnets, smock). Regular exposure to moving equipment and heavy loads—must follow all safety protocols.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand, walk, or perform inspections for 812 hours. Ability to lift or move up to 3550 lbs. Ability to bend, reach, climb stairs, or maneuver around production equipment. Manual dexterity for sampling, measuring, and equipment verification. Visual acuity for detailed inspections (corrective lenses acceptable). Ability to wear all required PPE including frocks, gloves, hairnets, face shields, chemical‑resistant gear, and steel‑toe footwear. Comfortable working in environments with moderate noise levels
