Job Description

Penmac is seeking a EHS Manager for South Hill, VA Salary based of experience $95-$115k Direct Hire Opportunity Job Summary The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing programs that promote compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements while fostering a strong safety culture. This role partners with leadership and employees to reduce risk, improve safety performance, and ensure environmental compliance. Responsibilities Develop, implement, and maintain Environmental, Health & Safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other federal, state, and local regulations. Lead site safety initiatives to drive a strong safety culture and continuous improvement. Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented. Manage incident investigations, root cause analysis, and follow-up actions to prevent recurrence. Oversee reporting of workplace injuries, illnesses, near misses, and environmental incidents in compliance with regulatory requirements. Coordinate and deliver safety training programs to employees, contractors, and managers. Ensure compliance with hazardous materials handling, storage, and disposal requirements. Prepare and submit regulatory reports (OSHA logs, EPA filings, etc.) accurately and on time. Serve as the primary contact during regulatory inspections and third-party audits. Collaborate with operations leadership to integrate EHS practices into daily work processes. Track and analyze EHS performance metrics, identify trends, and recommend improvements. Support emergency response planning, drills, and readiness activities. Manage relationships with external vendors, auditors, and regulatory agencies as needed. Stay current with evolving EHS regulations, standards, and industry best practices. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). 5+ years of progressive experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety management, preferably in manufacturing, pharmaceutical, chemical, or biotech industries. Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations, with proven ability to ensure compliance across multiple sites. Demonstrated experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and implementing corrective and preventive actions. Proficiency in developing and delivering safety training programs for employees at all levels. Experience leading regulatory audits and inspections (OSHA, EPA, ISO, or other relevant standards). Professional certification(s) preferred:
CSP, CIH, CHMM, ISO 14001/45001
Lead Auditor, or equivalent. OSHA 30-hour certification and
HAZWOPER
training a plus. Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels of the organization. Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and recommend improvements to reduce risk and improve safety culture.
