Job Description
Responsibilities Safety, Environmental & Compliance Oversight:
Support implementation and enforcement of AKIMA safety policies, procedures, and standards in accordance with OSHA regulations and contract requirements. Conduct risk assessments, safety inspections, and hazard identification activities across operational sections (Transportation, Supply & Services, Maintenance, HMCP, COSIS). Assist in maintaining compliance with Quality Control Plan (QCP) requirements and internal governance processes. Ensure alignment with Performance Work Statement (PWS) requirements and applicable regulatory guidance. Support environmental compliance efforts, including hazardous material handling, storage, and accountability practices.Incident & Risk Management:
Lead or support incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions. Apply risk management principles to mitigate hazards and improve operational decision-making. Track, monitor, and report safety incidents, trends, and corrective actions in accordance with AKIMA and contract reporting requirements.Operational Integration:
Coordinate with the Operations Manager, QA Manager, and Section Managers to integrate safety into mission execution. Support audit readiness and inspection preparation (e.g., internal reviews, customer evaluations, CCRI/OQE). Ensure safety considerations are incorporated into daily operations, planning, and task execution. Promote accountability and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.Training & Workforce Engagement:
Support development and delivery of safety training and awareness programs. Reinforce compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and safe work practices. Promote a culture of "safety-first" and operational discipline across all personnel. Provide guidance to supervisors and employees on risk awareness and hazard mitigation.Process Improvement & Reporting:
Identify opportunities to improve safety processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency. Support implementation of improvements aligned with AKIMA continuous improvement initiatives. Maintain documentation and records to support contract compliance, audits, and inspections. Assist in developing and refining safety-related SOPs and work instructions. Qualifications 5+ years of experience supporting safety, compliance, or operational oversight functions. Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and workplace safety practices. Experience conducting or supporting risk assessments, hazard identification, or incident investigations. Experience operating in a structured or regulated environment (e.g., military, government, or industrial setting). Demonstrated ability to support or deliver workforce training related to safety, compliance, or operational procedures. Experience with policy implementation, compliance tracking, or audit readiness support. Strong communication and coordination skills with the ability to work across multiple functional teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting DoD or federal government contracts. Familiarity with Performance Work Statements (PWS), Quality Control Plans (QCP), andFAR/DFARS
frameworks. Background in logistics, supply chain, or installation-level operations. Prior leadership or supervisory experience. Key Competencies Safety and risk management.
