Job Description
General Summary :
Supports the strategic direction, leadership, and overall administration and coordination of the Safety and Security program at University School of Milwaukee (USM) to ensure the security, student safety, and general safety of the school community. Reports to the Director of School Safety & Security, and assists in managing day-to-day security staffing, campus patrol operations, logistical coordination, and security communications. This role requires operational leadership, visible campus presence, and the ability to respond effectively in both routine and critical situations. USM requires a former certified law enforcement officer with leadership experience for this position.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports the Director of School Safety and Security in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the School's safety plan to maximize the safety of students, staff, and the overall community. Serves in an acting leadership capacity in the absence of the Director of School Safety & Security, as assigned. Assists the Director in coordinating daily security operations, including staffing, scheduling, deployment, and support of campus security personnel. Works collaboratively and consistently with the USM community to support student safety and the overall mission of the School. Conducts and supports regular patrols of campus buildings and grounds to maintain visibility, deterrence, and rapid response capability. Assists in oversight of the visitor management system, access control systems, video surveillance, and emergency notification systems. Coordinates security logistics and communications for school events, extracurricular activities, athletic contests, and other campus activities, including evenings and weekends as required. Serves as a resource regarding security and safety concerns for students, faculty, staff, and families. Supports leadership during critical incidents using USM's established incident management protocols. Responds to crises and emergencies as appropriate and assists in coordinating response efforts. Assists in coordination with internal and external personnel, including local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, in planning and implementing standardized responses to critical incidents. Participates in student behavioral threat assessment processes consistent with K-12 best practices. Helps develop and deliver training programs related to safety, accident prevention, emergency preparedness, and crisis response. Maintains accurate incident documentation and reports. Performs other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong interpersonal skills; capable of using tact and diplomacy in dealing with others. Strong knowledge of law enforcement policies and procedures, crime prevention, investigations, public safety training, and operations. Strong decision-making ability. Resource management skills. Ability to exercise strict confidentiality in handling sensitive information. Ability to respond to and manage critical incidents successfully. Ability to successfully work and interact with a diverse population. Outstanding customer service skills. High level of maturity, confidentiality, assertiveness and independence. Capable of competently operating technology. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as operational needs require, including periodic evenings, weekends, and during heightened threat environments or special events.Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, emergency management, or law enforcement preferred. Current driver's license. CPR/AED Certification, or ability to obtain this certification within 60 days of employment. Must possess anHR218 LEOSA
