Empowering. BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors, is currently recruiting for a passionate safety professional to join our dedicated Safety, Health and Environmental team. As a Senior Occupational Safety Specialist, you will play a key role in improving our Health and Safety Programs at our San Diego shipyard site, while reporting to the Site Safety Manager. As an Occupational Safety Specialist, Senior, you will: Partner with management, staff, and employees to promote and support a safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of all employees through our Safety Management System (SMS). Develop strategies to remove or mitigate risks related to identified workplace hazards. Lead incident investigations, collaborating with stakeholders to identify root causes, contributing factors and implement preventive measures. Complete and submit customer incident reporting forms. Coordinate and oversee proper safety incident response including evidence collection, preservation and documentation. Communicate findings, trends, and recommendations to senior leadership and subcontractors to ensure that safety concerns are addressed promptly and effectively. Required Education, Experience, & Skills Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related discipline, and four years' experience applying safety processes in an industrial environment, or the overall equivalent. Knowledge of Safety and Health regulations and modern safety management principles. Knowledge and ability to apply incident investigation and causal analysis methodology. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management, especially during high-stress incidents and emergency situations. Ability to act independently to quickly recognize when issues need to be elevated and additional support is required. Able to support travel of up to 10%. Travel is typically local to the San Diego area. Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Experience with Process Safety Management Management system experience (OSHA, ISO 45001)
Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range:
$82779 - $140723 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
