Job Description

Environmental Health & Safety Specialist I/II Job Description The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist I/II plays a crucial role in supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace. This hands-on position collaborates closely with the EHS Director to manage environmental compliance, safety programs, and regulatory requirements across laboratory, manufacturing, and facility operations. Responsibilities Assist with the implementation and maintenance of site EHS programs and regulatory compliance activities, including air quality, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, wastewater, and stormwater programs. Support chemical inventory management, hazardous waste handling, and regulatory documentation, including environmental reporting and compliance calendars. Conduct routine EHS inspections, safety audits, and job hazard analyses in laboratory, manufacturing, and warehouse areas. Assist with environmental sampling and testing coordination, including wastewater and waste characterization activities. Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and tracking corrective actions. Assist in developing and delivering EHS training and safety communications, including safety meetings and safety committee activities. Provide day-to-day EHS support to employees and departments and help ensure safe and compliant operations across the facility. Support regulatory inspections, audits, and interactions with regulatory agencies as needed. Perform additional EHS projects and duties as assigned. Essential Skills Basic knowledge of environmental and safety regulations administered by OSHA, Cal-OSHA, EPA, DTSC, and local regulatory agencies. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and grow within the EHS profession. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Biology, Chemistry, or related field, or equivalent experience. 1-4 years of EHS experience in laboratory, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or industrial environments preferred. Exposure to OSHA regulations, hazardous waste management, or environmental compliance programs preferred. Experience in cGMP or regulated manufacturing environments is a plus. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
