Position Overview The Bilingual Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving workplace safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental standards, and company policies. This role proactively identifies and mitigates safety risks, leads safety training initiatives, investigates incidents, and partners with leadership to strengthen the organization's safety culture. Working under general supervision, the Safety Specialist handles moderately complex safety matters, provides subject matter expertise, and supports regulatory readiness efforts. The position plays a key role in analyzing safety data, recommending corrective actions, overseeing contractor and equipment safety compliance, and ensuring proper documentation and reporting in accordance with applicable regulations. The Safety Specialist serves as a safety resource and mentor to supervisors and team members, promoting accountability, awareness, and continuous improvement across all operational areas. Essential Functions Develop, implement, and continuously improve site-wide safety programs and initiatives to prevent workplace injuries and incidents. Inspect work areas, equipment, and processes to identify hazards and implement corrective actions. Lead and deliver safety training programs, including OSHA compliance, LOTO, PPE, hearing conservation, and powered industrial equipment certification. Conduct incident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and develop corrective and preventive action plans. Prepare and submit regulatory documentation and accident reports in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements. Monitor safety performance metrics, analyze trends, and present recommendations to leadership to drive continuous improvement. Support internal and external audits, including OSHA and third-party compliance assessments. Oversee contractor safety orientation and compliance for on-site projects and capital improvements. Maintain and manage safety documentation systems, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS), training records, and compliance logs. Partner with supervisors and managers to strengthen safety leadership, accountability, and culture across the organization. Provide mentoring and guidance to team members regarding safe work practices and regulatory requirements. Ensure a food-safe and compliant work environment, taking immediate action when safety or regulatory standards are compromised. Expand into broader EHS responsibilities, including environmental tracking and chemical inventory auditing. Perform other duties as assigned to support operational safety and EHS initiatives. Minimum Qualifications 2+ years' experience developing, coordinating, and delivering training programs for employees and supervisors. 2+ years' experience in regulated production environments required; food manufacturing experience preferred. 2+ years' experience conducting inspections, incident investigations, risk assessments, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective and preventive action plans. Bilingual in English and Spanish required. Able to support regulatory inspections, customer audits, and compliance reviews. Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, confined space, powered industrial trucks (forklifts), hazard communication and contractor safety programs. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general industry safety standards. Knowledge of workers' compensation processes, injury management, and regulatory reporting requirements. Valid driver's license required. Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Industrial Hygiene, or a related field or equivalent experience Professional certifications preferred, such as OSHA 10 or 30-Hour, ASP, CSP, CHST, or equivalent, a plus Ability to identify systemic safety risks and recommend practical, sustainable corrective actions. Strong attention to detail with excellent follow-through and organizational skills. Strong verbal and written communication, documentation, and recordkeeping skills. Ability to effectively present safety information and training to employees at all levels of the organization. Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and collaborate effectively across departments. Ability to influence positive safety behaviors and drive accountability without direct authority. Demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, and a high degree of confidentiality. Ability to prioritize multiple projects, manage competing deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities. Ability to work independently while supporting broader EHS objectives and initiatives. Although actual pay may vary and may be above or below this range, generally speaking, offers will typically be made in the bottom half of the listed range. The amount offered will take into consideration a candidate's education, training, and experience, as well as the position's work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment.
