Posting Details Posting Summary Job Title Fire Safety Specialist II Division Division of Finance & Administration Department Office of Safety, Health & Environment Work Status Full Time Position Category Staff FLSA Exempt Pay Range Exempt Salary Range $75,000 / year Fund Source State Support Job Summary The Fire Safety Specialist II is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive fire safety programs to protect the campus community, property, and assets. This role involves conducting regular inspections, ensuring compliance with fire codes and regulations, and providing training and guidance on fire prevention and emergency preparedness. The Fire Safety Specialist II collaborates with university departments, external agencies, and first responders to address fire safety concerns and promote a culture of safety. By proactively identifying and mitigating fire hazards, this position plays a key role in supporting the university's mission to provide a safe, healthy, and compliant campus environment.
Job Duties Duties & Responsibilities:
Conduct regular fire safety inspections of campus buildings and facilities to identify hazards and ensure compliance with fire codes and regulations. Develop, implement, and update campus fire safety policies, procedures, and emergency action plans. Coordinate and conduct fire drills, evacuation exercises, and fire safety training for students, faculty, and staff. Investigate fire incidents, alarms, and false alarms to determine causes and recommend corrective actions. Oversee the maintenance, testing, and inspection of fire protection systems, including alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, and emergency lighting. Serve as a liaison with local fire departments and regulatory agencies on matters related to fire safety and compliance. Review construction and renovation plans for fire safety requirements and participate in project inspections. Maintain detailed records of fire safety activities, inspections, trainings, and incident reports. Provide guidance and technical expertise on fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and code compliance to the campus community. Assist with risk assessments and recommend improvements to enhance campus fire safety
Requested Minimum Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or GED
Experience:
Fire Inspector II NICET Five (5)years of professional experience in fire safety, fire prevention, code enforcement, or a closely related field. Knowledge of federal, state, and local fire codes, regulations, and standards (e.g., NFPA, OSHA, MOSH). Experience conducting fire safety inspections, investigations, and risk assessments. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups.
Maryland:
Valid driver's license. Other Preferences for Consideration Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in fire science, occupational safety, environmental health, or a related field. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to conduct thorough fire safety inspections and accurately identify hazards. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for risk assessment and incident investigation. Excellent written and oral communication skills for preparing reports, delivering training, and interacting with diverse campus stakeholders. Proficiency in interpreting and applying fire codes, standards, and regulations. Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate fire safety programs and procedures. Skilled in delivering fire safety presentations, drills, and educational sessions. Competence in using fire safety equipment and related technology. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Capacity to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in emergency situations.
