INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST, GS-0690-11
your duties are below. As an Industrial Hygienist, ensures stutory and regulory compliance with applicable Occupional Safety and Health Administrion (OSHA) and Air Force Occupional Safety and health (AFOSH) directives and regulions. Acts as the technical expert and advisor to Wing leadership on all issues pertaining to the above directives. Serves as an expert advisor concerning OSHA, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Nuclear Regulory Commission (NRC), and US Air Force on installion health mters such as, (a) health hazard identificion, evaluion and abement; (b) workplace surveillance, (c) medical-legal documention, (d) asbestos abement, (e) lead based paint, (f) ionizing and non-ionizing radiion, (g) Thermo Luminescent Dosimetry (TLD), (h) air emissions, (i) drinking wer, (j) wastewer discharges, (k) hazardous wastes, (l) Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) activities, (m) pesticide use, (n) environmental noise, (o) environmental assessment, (p) environmental sampling, and (q) other environmental monitoring. Serves as an installion expert regarding Nuclear Biological and Chemical readiness issues. Manages and assesses installion environmental sampling, analysis and monitoring requirements, and performs ambient, source and substance tests and monitoring. Compiles and evalues pollution emission inventories to include air, waste wer and hazardous merials/wastes. Determines human health impacts, works with Air Force, federal, and ste officials collaborively to ensure all laws are followed properly. Serves as the Base Radiion Safety Officer for Radio-Frequency radiion, ionizing radiion, and laser radiion. Develops and implements local directives for the installion radiion program. Interprets TLD reports as they apply to the base program, ensures instructions comply with applicable directives, and develops and monitors local emergency cleanup procedures for accidental releases. Routinely surveys workplaces for compliance, providing corrective measures when non-compliance situions arise. Investiges potential radiion overexposures by conducting interviews with potentially exposed personnel, witnesses, and management/supervisory personnel and by calculing probe burnout conditions, permissible exposure limit distances, and incident exposure levels. Recrees exposure levels, and measures exposure levels re-creion, formuling determinion of exposures from available hard da and mhemical re-creions. Provides reports of findings with recommended preventive/corrective measures to the installion commander and other ste and federal agencies (i.e. OSHA, Department of Transportion, and EPA). Coordines with the Medical Group ensuring the incident is documented in the individual's medical record.. Reviews and provides input to the installion Environmental Engineer regarding federal and ste environmental permit applicions. Ensures accuracy and completeness of radioactive merial permits before forwarding to the USAF and ste regulory agencies. Performs other duties as assigned.

TRIAL PERIOD REQUIREMENT

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT
Employment is subject to taining and maintaining a clearance as required by this position. If the selectee does not possess the applicable security clearance when hired, applicion must be made within 30 days of the start de. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
GS-0690-11: Must haveexperience in the following : Qualifying experience involves the recognition, evaluion, corrective actions, and eliminion of environmental conditions in the workplace th causes sickness, impaired health, or illness. This experience must demonstre a professional knowledge of the theory and applicion of the principles of industrial hygiene and closely reled sciences such as physics and engineering controls. Such work must have involved experience in all of the following areas: the acquisition of quantitive and qualitive da, and the measurement of exposures for a variety of chemical, physical, and biological stresses; the analysis of the da acquired and the prediction of probable effects of exposures on the health and well-being of workers; and the selection and recommendion of approprie controls, including management, medical, engineering, educion or training, and personal protective equipment.
