Job Title:
Sanitation Manager Job Description The Sanitation Manager leads all sanitation operations at a large manufacturing facility, reporting directly to the Operations Manager. This role plays a critical part in maintaining food safety, regulatory compliance, and a safe work environment by providing hands-on leadership, driving cross-functional collaboration, and continuously improving sanitation programs that protect both products and people. Responsibilities Lead and oversee all sanitation operations within the manufacturing facility to ensure a clean, safe, and compliant production environment. Provide hands-on leadership by regularly walking the production floors, observing conditions, and assisting team members where needed. Develop, implement, and maintain sanitation programs that meet or exceed food safety, FDA, GMP, and cGMP requirements. Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety regulations and internal policies, including proper cleaning, sanitizing, and documentation practices. Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, quality, maintenance, and other departments to coordinate sanitation activities and minimize production downtime. Plan, schedule, and direct daily sanitation activities, including dry and wet cleaning and CIP (Clean-in-Place) processes. Train, coach, and develop sanitation team members, providing regular feedback and performance management to support their growth and effectiveness. Promote a strong safety culture by enforcing safe work practices, identifying hazards, and ensuring proper use of equipment and chemicals. Use data-driven approaches to monitor sanitation performance, identify trends, and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Conduct or support root cause analyses for sanitation-related issues and implement corrective and preventive actions. Manage or support the management of sanitation-related budgets and vendor contracts, ensuring cost-effective use of resources. Maintain working knowledge of manufacturing equipment and its sanitation requirements to ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures. Support audits and inspections by regulatory agencies and customers, providing documentation and demonstrating compliance with sanitation standards. Ensure that all sanitation activities support product quality, food safety, and the protection of employees and consumers. Essential Skills High school diploma or GED. Five or more years of experience leading teams in a manufacturing or food production environment with a sanitation or quality focus. Three or more years of managerial sanitation experience. Supervisory experience in employee development, coaching, and performance management. Experience in the food and beverage or food manufacturing industry. Hands-on management style with a strong floor presence and willingness to assist where needed. Working knowledge of sanitation programs, food safety regulations, and manufacturing equipment. Experience with dry and wet cleaning processes and CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems. Strong understanding of GMP and cGMP requirements in food production. Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. Data-driven mindset with the ability to use data to guide decisions and process improvements. Self-starter with the ability to work independently and proactively identify and resolve issues. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience managing sanitation-related budgets and vendor contracts is preferred. Experience in process improvement within a food production or manufacturing environment. Familiarity with FDA regulations and food safety standards. Ability to collaborate effectively across functions such as operations, quality, and maintenance. Strong communication and leadership skills to motivate and guide diverse teams. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing facility that operates large, moving equipment, where noise levels can be high and temperatures may vary throughout the work area. The position requires regular movement around the facility, including walking, climbing stairs or ladders, kneeling, and performing repetitive tasks that demand good hand-eye coordination. You may be required to lift or carry materials of varying weights and sizes as part of daily sanitation activities. The environment is fast-paced and production-focused, with a strong emphasis on food safety, cleanliness, and adherence to sanitation and safety procedures.
