_ The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is the state agency responsible for overseeing investor-owned electric power, natural gas, and water companies in Massachusetts. It regulates the safety of bus companies, moving companies, transportation network companies, and oversees the safety of natural gas pipelines and the MBTA. _Job Description:
_ The Consumer Complaint Investigation Intern will learn laws and regulations related to transportation, passenger safety and towing, how to investigate and resolve complaints, and the opportunity to assist with creation of new regulations as needed. The internship is appropriate for a first-year law student, undergrad interested in law school or law enforcement, and anyone committed to consumer protection and public safety. _Job Duties:
_- Investigate and resolve consumer complaints.
- Respond in writing and verbally to consumers.
- Assist in preparing a rulemaking.
- Conduct hearing or do a ride- along with inspectors (depending upon intern's interests).
Preferred Qualifications:
_- Interest in consumer protection and/or public safety, possibly compliance and law enforcement.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to track complaints.
