JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Fire Watch / Utility Worker plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and protection of wTe employees and company assets through active and continuous observation of hot work activity in the scrap yard.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Hot Work Monitoring & Fire Prevention Monitor hot work activities including welding, cutting, and grinding, remaining focused and alert to prevent sparks from igniting flammable materials. Inspect and prepare work areas for hot work by identifying and removing fire hazards and combustible materials. Ensure all flammable items are kept away from ignition sources. Equipment Readiness & Emergency Response Ensure fire extinguishers and other safety equipment are properly inspected, in good working order, and accessible. Be prepared to respond immediately in case of fire by stopping hot work, alerting the yard supervisor, and using extinguishing equipment when safe to do so. Communication & Safety Compliance Maintain clear and constant communication with workers performing hot work and with supervisors to relay warnings and instructions. Enforce all company safety policies and procedures related to fire prevention and emergency response. Administrative & Other Duties Perform additional duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE & WORK CONDITIONS

Schedule is 2-3 evenings per week starting at 5:00 p.m. and ending between 1:00 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. Days vary based on weather but tend to occur early in the week. Saturday daytime availability is a plus but not required for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

Unwavering adherence to safety protocols, a strong work ethic, and excellent attendance is required. Strong attendance and reliability are required. A sharp, attentive eye is crucial for spotting potential issues in a fast-moving scrap yard environment. Familiarity with fire hazards, prevention methods, and the proper use of fire extinguishers is required. Ability to communicate clearly and calmly, especially in emergency situations, is critical. Must be able to lift and move equipment and remain on feet for extended periods. Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred. Previous experience in an industrial environment is helpful but not required. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

PHYSICAL & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift and move materials and equipment. Ability to stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods. Must wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, gloves, and safety-toed boots. Work is performed outdoors in a scrap yard environment and may include exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
