Overview A safety support role is being sourced in connection with active and upcoming work at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). The role supports a multi-phase Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) program across WMATA's Bus and Rail shops. Positions require candidates local to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) Specialist Position Summary The Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) Specialist will conduct structured Job Hazard Analyses across the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Bus and Rail shop environments. The Specialist will proactively identify hazards associated with worker interaction with job tasks, tools, and the work environment, and will produce written analyses, training recommendations, and educational materials that help prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities. This is a hands-on, field-based safety practitioner role supporting WMATA Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).Position Details Client:

As soon as possible (ASAP) Key Responsibilities Support designation of the team lead, team members, and roles and responsibilities for the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) project. Examine and prioritize jobs to determine which jobs receive Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) first and which do not require one. Prioritization factors include jobs with the highest injury or illness rates, jobs with potential to cause severe or disabling injuries or illnesses, jobs in Departments or Offices with JHAs assigned as a corrective action plan, jobs with JHAs already in progress, and jobs with the highest number of employees assigned (for example, Bus and Rail operators). Develop and finalize the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) template and form. Schedule and execute Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) in phases, beginning with top priorities. Conduct worker interviews, shadow workers, and observe work activities in WMATA Bus and Rail shop environments. Complete Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) forms accurately and consistently. Finalize, file, and share completed Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) with WMATA stakeholders. Recognize and document specialized training needs identified through the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) exercise, with emphasis on safety-related training and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training topics. Develop job aids and educational materials that inform workers of identified hazards and corresponding mitigations for working safely. Required Qualifications Background as a safety practitioner, or an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) background. Hazard management knowledge and risk assessment knowledge. Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, defensible written hazard analyses. Knowledge of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Job Task Analyses (JTAs). Ability to work on-site in WMATA Bus and Rail shop environments and observe live work tasks safely. Local residency in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Preferred Qualifications Certified Safety Professional (CSP) accreditation, or Graduate Safety Professional (GSP) accreditation. Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) certification. Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) is not required for this task but is considered a strong plus. Prior experience writing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) in a transit, transportation, or heavy-industrial maintenance environment. Experience developing safety training materials or worker-facing job aids. Work Environment This is a primarily field-based role. The Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) Specialist will spend the majority of working hours in active Bus and Rail maintenance shops observing tasks, interviewing workers, and documenting hazards. Office time will be used for write-ups, template development, and coordination with the Project Manager (PM) and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).Job Type:
